I’m relatively particular when it comes to shorts, mainly with inseams. Too short and I just feel too uncomfortable… constantly pulling the legs down, feeling as if my booty is hanging out…. so over the years I’ve come to really hone in on what I look for in shorts. The first criteria is that they have to have an inseam longer than 2.5 inches (I’m short, so that can work for me…)… anything shorter than that and I just know they won’t feel right (anyone else know that uncomfortable feeling where the inseam keeps creeping up???). Then they have to be comfortable enough for all day wear… be it soft + worn in denim, or a comfortable cotton/linen fabric… if they aren’t comfortable (like everything else I own…) I’m not wearing it…
After that, anything goes. So today I’ve rounded up my go-to shorts that past above said test. They’re comfortable, long enough to comfortably bend over in them, and overall items I reach for regularly (because the majority of them I’ve had for several seasons). So if you’re looking for some good shorts for this spring/summer season, I hope this helps!
Have a great day everyone!
_________
WAFFLE KNIT SHORTS
(Shorts, Half Zip (more Reformation tops), Bag (10% off with code SHANNON10))
These waffle knit shorts and a great alternative to denim… lightweight, waffle knit texture makes them great for lounging, or toss on sneakers/slides and your favorite top and they’re perfect for all day wear. They’re sustainably made + 100% organic cotton, so I sized up in the shorts to account for some shrinkage when I wash them…
LINEN SHORTS
(Shorts, Pullover, Hat (other Janessa Leone hats)
I’ve had these linen pull on shorts going on 3 seasons now and I plan on wearing them this year as much as I have in the past…. another excellent alternative to denim shorts, they work as a coverup with your favorite one piece, or oversized linen button down. Sustainably made + I purchased my regular size.
AGOLDE PARKER SHORTS
(Shorts, Coatigan, Similar Hat)
I think I’ve had these for 4 seasons now… such a great basic pair of cut-offs that are super comfortable with a great worn in look. Another sustainably made brand, this particular pair runs fairly true to size and I went with my regular size.
AGOLDE PARKER LONG VINTAGE SHORTS
(Shorts, Pullover, Bag, Sandals, Similar Hat)
Since I’m such a huge fan of AGOLDE, I knew that these longer inseam vintage cut-offs would be just as good as the regular parker shorts… and they are. They have a slightly higher waist, and a longer inseam (so they’re bend over friendly….)…. these run on the large size, so I’d recommend sizing down one!
REFORMATION 90’S SHORT
(Shorts (these are the same brand/color), similar half zip, Sneakers)
I purchased these at the end of summer last year and I love the sporty fit. I’ve worn them for lounging, as a cover-up, and as an everyday short… so they’re fairly versatile. Also sustainably made, and I purchased my regular size.
MADEWELL PULL-ON SHORTS
As I’m writing this post I’m noticing a theme here… the majority of shorts have a nice and comfortable waistband… these included. I think the “stay at home” life did that to me, but regardless, these are comfortable, stylish, and their black color allows them to be a little dressier than some of the other shorts I’ve shared. I’d wear these out for a day date, or a warm summer evening date night, with a cute top. I purchased my regular size, but thinking I should have sized down one since they’re a little loose in the waist. They have functional pockets, which I always appreciate… and come in several other colors.
SPANX RIBBED BIKER SHORTS
(Shorts, Similar Pullover, Sneakers, Bag (10% off code SHANNON10)
Biker shorts are always slightly controversial… people either love them or hate them… but if you’re a fan, these are great. They’re high waisted and have the best ribbed texture. I purchased my regular size and was initially worried they’d fit too tight, but they’re perfect (read: they don’t fall down in the waist and I don’t have to pull them down in the legs).
LOU + GREY SIGNATURE SOFT SHORTS
If you love the Lou + Grey signature soft line, then you’ll be a huge fan of these shorts since they’re the same material as the pants…. I first bought these right after I had Camille (so, 2 years ago) and I’m obviously still a huge fan. They’re great for a casual spring or summer day and pair nicely with a sweater or tee. Lots of great color options too.
AGOLDE PARKER LONGE VINTAGE SHORTS WHITE
These white shorts are the same fit and style as the parker vintage long shorts, so I won’t go into fit and sizing, but the white color isn’t see through, which I fully appreciate in white denim!
