A More Flexible Capsule Wardrobe: 19 Outfits Built Around Pieces I Repeat

If you’ve been here a while, you’re probably familiar with the capsule wardrobes I shared regularly until about six months ago. I’d been posting them monthly since 2019—six years! It’s hard to believe.

They were incredibly useful for helping me get dressed and hone in on my style: practical, minimal, and neutral.

Then, about six months ago, I hit a wall. The posts were still on my calendar and to-do lists, but I kept finding ways to avoid them. Maybe my content focus had shifted as I tried to keep up with Instagram’s ever-changing algorithm. Maybe I was feeling a little weary of seeing capsule wardrobes everywhere online. Either way, the posts gradually came to a stop.

The other day, someone messaged me to say she’d been reading my content for a while and thought a floral brocade jacket I’d shared would fit seamlessly into the capsule wardrobes I used to post. It got me thinking: What if I simply changed the way I approached them?

I may have evolved past the purist idea of a capsule wardrobe: a set number of pieces you stick to without adding anything new. I’m not sure I ever fully subscribed to that idea. My capsules were always monthly, with the same core pieces and a few new additions that created even more outfit possibilities.

These days, I’m drawn to the idea of seasonal basics—the pieces I come back to again and again. They make up the foundation of my wardrobe. Then, when I find something I know I’ll wear often and that works with those basics, I can add it in naturally. There’s no need to buy an entirely new wardrobe; the right piece simply finds its place.

Maybe it’s less about restriction and more about being intentional: choosing pieces for a reason, thinking about how they’ll work with what you already own, and asking yourself whether a trend feels right for you—or is tempting because it’s everywhere. It’s about coming back to your core style, then making room for pieces that bring you joy, like a floral jacket or the sequin dress I bought this summer.

All of that to say, I think I’m heading back toward sharing how I mix and match pieces, as I did in the styling portion of my capsule posts. In this post, I’m sharing 19 outfits from the past month and how I combined familiar pieces in different ways. They’re not groundbreaking—just simple, comfortable outfits for everyday life.

I hope this new approach feels as helpful as the capsules were, with a little more styling and a more visual look at how the pieces work together.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
