Before I had kiddos, working out was something that I was able to whenever, and however, I wanted. Yet, when Harper came along I had to become more diligent and strategic about how I worked in those sweat sessions. In those beginning, newborn, months I used a few tricks… like baby wearing when doing resistance training (I mean, it was basically a built in 10lbs… and she loved it…). Now with the addition of Camille to our little crew, getting workouts in means no time can be wasted…. and I’ve really streamlined the process, and products, that I use to get it done! Today I’ve decided to share a few of the products that I find essential to working out while having kiddos!
1. Baby Carrier: I am such a huge proponent of baby carriers for so many different reasons… one of them being that they make life as a mom, hands free, possible…. all while keeping the little one happy. In the first few weeks with Camille, I wore her on all our morning walks and it was such an easy way for her to get in a nap, and for me to get the blood moving. I used our mini BabyBjorn on these walks. Now that she’s a little older, and weighing more, increased back support is necessary for longer durations and more intense walks. When we go on family hikes, this Babybjorn Carrier One is the carrier we reach for (we had a white one with Harper, and easily carried her in it until she was two). It provides excellent support, can be used when they’re newborns (no insert necessary), and grows well past the year mark (the mini only supports baby up to 12 months). Easy to wash, made of fabric that is safe for baby, and designed in conjunction with pediatricians to ensure hips are ok, it’s my preferred carrier brand.
2. Baby Monitor: Now that we have a small gym area in the garage it’s easy to get in a workout while she sleeps by bringing along the baby monitor. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten in my spin workout with that baby monitor by my side.
3. Jogging Stroller: If you enjoy long walks, and runs, then a running stroller is a must! Made with wheels that are designed to absorb shock, they’re a great way to get in an invigorating run with a little one in tow. We use our running stroller all the time. We had a single BOB with Harper + probably used it several times a week.
4. Sun Protection: While I try to workout in the morning hours when I bring the girls along to decrease sun exposure, sometimes it’s not 100% possible. In that case, I lather them with Coola Sunscreen (sometimes Babyganics) + put this UPF 50+ hat on Camille if she is in the carrier (and obviously cover up her arms and legs appropriately).
5. At Home Equipment: If you can’t get outside, bring the workout inside. Baby wear for a good resistance workout… or have some free weights on hand so you can do a HIIT/resistance workout all while your little one sits in their favorite bouncer (this is ours) or bumbo seat (we had one of those with Harper and plan on getting another one when Camille is old enough). Turn on some music, work the booty, and watch your little one look on in delight (Harper used to laugh and giggle all the time).
And while it seems as if there are a lot of products that are required, Walmart provides a one stop shop for all these items, which can easily be added to your Walmart Baby Registry. With so many different strollers, carriers, and monitors to choose from… along with a wide selection of premium brands (my favorites are Babybjorn, SkipHop, + Baby Brezza)… the baby registry is a one stop shop. You can also easily manage it from your phone, which makes life so much easier, especially when you’re pregnant. So if you’re looking to create a registry, add to your current registry, or just pick up a few pieces to make working out with kiddos possible, then I can’t recommend the items above more!
