Basics. They can be looked at as boring, or something much much more. I tend to look at them as a blank canvas for adding whatever color, texture, or flare my heart desires. Which is why last weekend, when we went out to dinner with some friends, I pulled out my favorite dolman black sweater and tried and true skinny jeans (I’m starting to think they are looking a little too tried as of late…). There really isn’t anything special about them, I was simply in the mood for basics and statement pieces. Which is why you’ll see different dimensions in the look from the evening. Blues, silvers, dainty pieces, statements pieces, metallics, and cashmere. It was “mixed media” dressing at its pinnacle. And yet, it felt simplistic all at the same time. I guess that’s the real beauty of dressing with basics… you can make it whatever you want it to be.
