October Lately: Big Firsts & Little Breathers

It’s been a busy October for us, with this past week bringing a big first: our oldest heading off to outdoor science camp with her fifth-grade class. There was plenty of excitement and anticipation leading up to departure… along with copious amounts of planning and checking things off lists.

It was her first time away from us for that long without any direct contact. There was, however, a daily Google Doc with photos—which every parent diligently scanned for a glimpse of their child, haha. The milestone hit each of us a little differently, and by the time Friday rolled around, we were very ready to scoop up our seemingly more mature and independent little lady. She was physically exhausted. We were emotionally exhausted. Everyone needed a quiet evening at home.

So when rain canceled Friday night flag football, we happily settled in. We spent most of the weekend catching up on life, with an annual pumpkin-carving party with friends tucked in there as well.

Every year, I somehow convince myself that life will slow down once summer ends. And every year, the “ber” months arrive with other plans. It’s all things I look forward to, but I’m learning to appreciate the little pockets of downtime in between… even when it takes a rain cancellation to make one happen.

Whether your weekend was full of plans or you had a chance to lay low, I hope it was a good one!

______

(Friday lunch date… jeans, tee, sandals)

(Little hands that wanted to make a charcuterie board and help set the table for TJ’s birthday dinner with family… tablecloth)

(When the weather doesn’t get the fall memo… and easy long sleeve top and shorts… belt)

(A Sunday spent finally picking up pumpkins for the front porch… shorts, sweatshirt)

(Checking the list twice before we zip up the suitcase and send her off…)

(Starting this one…)

(The second rainy day of the season… jeans, top, belt, sneakers)

(A fun “mom’s night while they’re away” evening of dinner and wreath making… jacket (another option))

(Picked up our little lady and headed out to lunch at her fav spot… jeans, sweater (another option), belt)

(Lettuce hem olive green pants for pumpkin carving with friends… pants (more here), top)

_______

I love these Jacquard Hem pants for the fall season….

I own this faux fur mink collar, and it was restocked for this season. I love how it takes a simple jacket and really elevates it…

I own this brown sheer top and love it for a fall date night or evening with friends.

I added this henley cashmere sweater to my closet, as well as this beautiful mulberry silk blouse, both under $100… and they’ve already been on heavy rotation.

I love this triangle scarf... pricey if purchased in the states… but so beautiful.

I have realized that I don’t love a heeled boot for everyday life… and I don’t always love flats (sometimes they feel a bit formal for me… don’t know why), so I ordered these flat suede boots and can’t wait to try them and see how they look.

I loved these satin pants from last year, and this season they brought them back in ivory and black. This satin pair another good option.
