There’s always a point toward the end of summer when I’m completely ready for a change in seasons… but the weather has other plans and it typically coincides with some of the hottest days of the season (we’re pushing low to mid 90’s over here…). Fall fashion is starting to trickle in everywhere, yet it’s still very much summer outside—and definitely too warm to start layering on sweaters and jackets.
So instead of rushing into fall dressing, I’ve been leaning into the pieces that have carried me through the warmer months: easy separates, lightweight fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, and simple outfits that still feel pulled together when it’s way too hot to put much thought into getting dressed.
Today I’m rounding up some of my favorite late-summer outfits to beat the heat—and, unsurprisingly, they’re made up of many of the same staples I’ve been wearing all season.
The Late-Summer Staples I Keep Reaching For
One thing I’ve become much better about over the years is not feeling like I need an entirely new wardrobe for every season. Having a solid base of pieces I know work for me—and then adding a few new things here and there—has made getting dressed so much easier.
For summer, that base tends to look pretty similar year after year: longer-inseam shorts, lightweight pants, simple tanks and tees, easy skirts and dresses, breathable button-downs, and a handful of sandals and accessories that can make those basics feel different.
And at this point in the season, those are exactly the pieces I want to wear
So while I’m definitely starting to think about fall and the pieces I’ll want to wear in the season ahead, I’m not quite ready to rush it. There’s still plenty of summer left—and plenty of warm weather to dress for.
For now, I’m leaning into the pieces that have worked all season, finding new ways to wear them, and slowly adding in those subtle nods to what’s ahead. Because sometimes the best wardrobe refresh isn’t buying an entirely new one—it’s simply finding a little inspiration in what you already have.
I hope these late-summer outfits give you a few ideas for getting dressed through these final hot weeks of the season. Have a great rest of your week!
