We headed up to Santa Barbara for the long three-day weekend—initially just my sister, my dad, me, and our girls, with TJ joining us on Sunday. We missed my mom and brother-in-law, who unfortunately couldn’t make it, but there was something quietly special about how it all unfolded. It’s rare to have time that’s just my dad, my sister, me, and the girls—a small window of togetherness that felt both unexpected and deeply meaningful.

It struck me at some point—probably during one of those seemingly ordinary moments—that someday, we will dream about today. About this exact season of life, when togetherness sounded like a house full of noise, full hearts, and time that felt just a little bit stretched. And as someone with grandparents in their late 90s, I know these are the moments that won’t show up as milestones, but will live on as feelings we’ll wish we could step back into.

Santa Barbara always seems to give us space to simply be—to laugh, to rest, to reconnect, and to tuck away memories we don’t yet realize we’ll miss. One day, when life looks different and these days feel far away, I hope we remember them just like this: simple, present, and full of love.
