As you know, Shannon and I are all about “itsy bitsy indulgences-” indulging in a healthy, balanced way. Well, when I go out with my girlfriends I try to take this mindset with me. That’s why if you see me at a bar, I’ll likely be sipping on a vodka soda-probably the lowest calorie, lowest-sugar drink you can get….and it’s also low on taste. So I’ve been trying to branch out, finding a libation that is not so low in taste, but also not super sugary and bursting with calories. That’s when I landed on the strawberry-basil martini. I’ve had a few of these over the past month or two, and have become quite a fan! My favorite versions are those made with simply muddled strawberries, simple syrup (yes, I know that that’s basically sugar water, but I said better tasting, remember?!) and basil (and obviously vodka). With basil leaves AND fresh strawberries, it’s practically like I’m juicing right?!(…..) But, since it is Shannon and I, we of course needed to add a little champagne to our own version. Duh!
