16 Essentials For Your Summer Wardrobe

When I think about summer, sandy toes, sun-kissed skin, the constant smell of sunscreen, and long days spent outside quickly comes to mind. And we’ve been living every part of that… with weekly beach trips, lathering up the sunscreen for long days spent by the pool, soaking in all the sun, and staying outside until the sunsets… and this summer season it’s nice to be able to get out and about again, enjoying some of our favorite restaurants and activities….

Whenever summer arrives I always find myself gravitating towards lighter materials and easy throw on and go pieces.. no matter the occasion. So for today’s post I took inventory of the items I’ve been wearing fairly regularly over the past several weeks, thought about the upcoming summer moths, and put together the wardrobe essentials that I’ll be wearing non stop this summer season. I’ve included my “why this piece is great for summer” explanation below for each item. I hope it helps in streamlining your summer wardrobe.

I hope everyone has a great weekend ahead! Enjoy the first full weekend of the summer season!

(Air Tank | Long + Loose Cut-Offs | Linen Shorts | Lightweight Dress | Airy Cami | Oversized Linen Top | Summer Sweater | White Lounge Set | Ribbed Date Night Set | Crinkle Swimsuit | Lightwash Jeans | Basic White Tee | Feminine Blouse (should be in white) | White Henley Bodysuit | Sweater Shorts | Gauze Pants)

Air Tank: I bought this tank in clay at the beginning of last summer and loved how lightweight and “airy” it was that I added the black color to my wardrobe for this summer season. The tanks are sustainably made, wash well, and are great staples to go with any item in your closet… denim, cut-offs, lounge shorts/pants, front knotted as a swim coverup, etc… I purchased my regular size for a loose fit, but I do recommend sizing down it you want it a little more streamlined.

Long + Loose Cut-Offs: If you’re looking for a pair of shorts that your booty will not fall out of, then these are a great option. With a 4.5 inseam they aren’t too long and they’re not too short either. They are a high waisted fit and each pair of shorts that I own by AGOLDE last forever. I own these in the black and white as well since I plan on living in them all summer. I highly recommend sizing down on these as they are a looser fit, but see, to run a size too big.

Linen Shorts: These have been a go-to of mine for the past two summers, now going onto my third with these. They’re a great alternative to denim, with a comfortable elastic waist they look great with just about anything… a basic tee, a cute bodysuit, with a cozy pullover, or even as a bathing suit coverup. They come in several different colors as well and I recommend sizing up if you’re between sizes.

Lightweight Dress: Having a super light weight + airy dress that you can just throw on and head out the door with slides is a great closet staple. I just got this one and love how light and airy it is… it will work as a coverup as well. This tiered dress is also a wonderful option.

Airy Cami: I love a top that can work for a casual daytime look or dress up for an evening out and this one fits the bill. It’s super lightweight, has adjustable straps, and looks cute with all things high waisted… whether your wearing denim shorts, pull-on shorts, or your favorite jeans this top is a versatile piece that can easily take you from day to night.

Oversized Linen Top: Yet again, this oversized linen top makes an appearance. Another versatile item for your closet that can be worn front knotted with denim shorts, as a cover-up, or open as an easy layer with basically any base. It is meant to have an oversized fit, that covers the booty, so if you want something more streamlined this item isn’t for you. This is another, less expensive, option.

Summer Sweater: I always think having an oversized cardigan on hand for cooler evenings spent outside is a great option… I bring mine with me all the time. You can wear them for lounging, or with cut-offs, over a swimsuit, with denim, and since it’s a cardigan it’s easy to put on and off…

White Lounge Set: A white lounge set for summer is a great option for lazy weekends, evenings, and for when you want to be out and about while still being comfortable. I love these two pieces because they also mix with other items listed here, so they aren’t exclusive to each other. Both super soft, but still lightweight enough for summer.

Ribbed Date Night Set: I probably didn’t need to call this a date night set… but maybe just a dressier option for the summer season. This two piece set is a great option… the skirt is high waisted and the top is long enough that you really don’t show much skin… I wore it out for my mom’s birthday last weekend, but it would work for a shower, girl’s night, or a date night….

Crinkle Swimsuit: I’ve always loved a good one piece suit because it can also double as a bodysuit. This one is amazing. My sister turned me onto the brand, and I love the low back fit and the sleek black color. The suit has good booty coverage (I mean, it’s not full, but it’s by no means cheeky…). You can wear it with any of the bottoms I’ve mentioned here and even with the skirt I shared above if you don’t want the crop for a specific occasion. I envision wearing it for a date night with a pair of black jeans, hair pulled back, and some small gold hoops and accessories… and for daytime with the cut-offs and a straw hat with slides….

Lightwash Jeans: I think I include these in almost all of my capsules and seasonal roundups because they’re that versatile. I don’t plan on wearing jeans when the temps start hitting the 90’s but the lightwash and distressing on these make them laid back and casual for the summer season…. pair them with a bodysuit and slides and it’s a great summertime outfit.

Basic White Tee: Purchased this tee at the same time I bought the air cami above (last summer) and it’s a great basic for any wardrobe. It’s the same lightweight and airy material as the air tank so great for those warm summer days. I don’t recommend sizing up since it doesn’t shrink, but stay with your regular size.

Feminine Blouse: Love love this top as a way to dress up a casual pair of shorts or jeans. It just arrived two days ago and it’s light, airy, sustainably made, and has just the right amount of ruffles that you don’t feel like a wrapped up present. Wear it for a date night, lunch with friends, or even wear it for a day with the kiddos.

White Henley Bodysuit: I included this in June’s Capsule wardrobe and wear this item regularly. At first I thought it was too see through, but once I added this bra underneath it was perfect. It’s fitted, but not uncomfortable and I love the henley detailing.

Sweater Shorts: These are a newer item I purchased two weeks ago, but they are amazing… I thought they were going to be too large and oddly shaped, but I love them. I roll them up once and they’re such a comfortable summer short. I’ve worn them as a beach-cover up, with the air tank mentioned above for a casual bbq with the family, and lounging around the house. They’re another great alternative to denim.

Gauze Pants: Love these lightweight gauze pants as an alternative to jeans for the summer season… wear them with a fitted top, as a coverup, or for lounging around the house and you’re sure to look pulled together. I love them paired with a simple slide sandal.
