Wellness Wednesday || The 3 Reasons We Work Out As A Couple

The other day, when I mentioned to TJ that I was thinking about signing up for another half marathon this year, he mentioned that he’d be interested as well. It’s been 5 years since we’ve run a half together. It was before kiddos + training was relatively easy. Long runs on the weekend, shorter distances during the week. We’d always go together, and we considered it to be such great quality time … and it really set the foundation for us to often choose working out as a “day date” when the kiddos came along….

We try to be really intentional when we have the opportunity to spend one on one time together, so when it comes down to choosing an activity we always want to ensure it’s a common interest + something that will help us feel connected. And as I thought about it, we both realized that there were three main reasons why we so often choose working out together, whether it’s just a walk by the beach + breakfast after, or a longer hike session, as our day date possibilites…..

1. We Always Feel Good After: GIven that there is a natural endorphin release when you work out, it’s hard not to feel good both during, and after, the workout. I feel as if sometimes outside stressors can seep there way into dates sometimes, so when you’re releasing chemicals in your brain that naturally lift your mood, it’s hard to say no to that. Especially when it’s paired with the person you love.

2. Sense Of Accomplishment: Before kiddos, TJ + I used to train for half marathons together, set crazy biking distances together, and after we always felt so accomplished. We’d support each other along the way, so it always felt like we were “in it together” which carried on after the workout. Those longer workouts aren’t as easy these days with two, but the

3. Conversation: Typically, when we’re working out together, the girls are either in a stroller or carrier (for hikes) so we’re able to get in some good conversation together. I’ve found that some of our best conversations have occurred during an outdoor hike or walk.

All that to say, we’re in the process of looking up possible half marathons that we can train for and ended up getting some new workout pieces from Jockey. Just in time. Since we both do most of our working out in the morning hours, layers are key. I love this half zip pullover to toss on over this long sleeve top for my morning runs. Both are lightweight, breathe nicely, absorb sweat, and don’t feel bulky when I’m working out. I’ve worn it on several runs + it’s a great runner’s staple (TJ couldn’t agree more about his). HIs workout tights are easy to layer shorts over for a run, hike, or a spin class, and he wears the basic black top for everyday life as well.  All of our items are super soft and very practical for any workout and I love that they’re nice enough to wear out to a post workout breakfast or lunch. Because, for us, it’s not a date unless good food is also involved!
