Motherhood || The Message I Hope To Convey To My Daughters About Body Image

I was getting ready Friday morning in one of our rooms that has tons of natural light, and just so happened to be putting on my jeans, when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. A few extra dimples, that hadn’t been there months prior, appeared and it took me back a little. Not having weighed myself throughout the duration of my pregnancy (I figured the doctor would let me know if there was a concern), and since giving birth, I hadn’t given much thought to my post pregnancy body other than to give myself grace….

That being said, the first thing that came to mind when I caught a glimpse of my behind was something negative. I caught myself before making any statements out loud, since I had two tiny onlookers in the room (gone are the days of getting ready solo), and instead shrugged it off and continued to get ready. And to be quite honest, it felt liberating to not give it a second thought. To stop the negative self talk in my head, choose a different thought, one much more kind, and to simply move forward.

It’s easy to get down on our bodies, especially in postpartum life, but when I think about the message I am sending to my little girls about loving their own bodies, I know that all starts with me and how I talk about my own. I want to model for them that they can do beautiful things with the body they have been given….  and that their beauty is not defined by a number on a scale or a size on a pair of jeans. To move their bodies to feel good and strong… not because they don’t like what they see… and to know that their beauty is more than how they look physically. I hope to reinforce within them that their beauty is defined by so much more than outward appearances. And I know that it all starts with me. So quite simply I have to choose to feel good about the body I have… talk to myself in a way that I would talk to my daughters about theirs… without judgement + with full acceptance.

With that, part of feeling good is also having the right undergarments for my postpartum body. Macy’s has a large selection of lingerie perfect for what I’m looking for. I’ve always been a fan of the b.tempt’d line, and most recently added this lounging tank + bralette to my collection. Both pieces are ultra soft, super stretchy, and feel good on the body… perfect for those days where we’re lounging at home or running a few errands. Added bonus, the bralette has full coverage, perfect for these new nursing boobs. I’m also considering this front closure bra, as I think it would work well while nursing. A few other favorites from the line, that I can’t wait to wear after nursing, include this contour bra + strapless bra. I also own several pairs of underwear from b.tempt’d and they’re incredibly comfortable. Macy’s is currently having a 5 for $30 special on underwear (you can mix/match brands), as well as an extra 20% off sale lingerie + sleepwear with code Memday. If you’re looking to stock up, they’re a great one stop shop for all your lingerie needs….

Here’s to feeling good in our bodies… both mentally + physically….
