I mentioned this several posts back, but over the past year or so, I’ve been on the quest to remove toxic beauty products from my daily routine. I made a big shift when I changed from mainstream deodorant to Native (which, update, still very happy with, more on that here)… and have continued to test out products to find ones that I love, and that work as well as the ones I previously used. And while I’m not an expert, the research I have done has shown that these are the ingredients that you should avoid in your beauty routine:
Parabens
Synthetic Colors (avoid FD&C or D&C)
Fragrance
Phthalates
Triclosan Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
Formaldehyde
Toluene
Propylene glycol
Sunscreen chemicals
That being said, the following products are free from the above 10 ingredients, and I’ve found them to be equally, if not more, effective than my previous products. I am also a huge TULA fan (obviously), but haven’t listed their products here, since these are new beauty items that I’ve been using lately…..
I was first introduced to Osea (a non-toxic seaweed based skincare line) about two years ago and fell in love with their products. This facial cleanser being one of them… I love that their products make me feel like I’m at a spa, and this cleanser isn’t any different. It effectively cleanses my skin, and feels so good while doing it. A few other favorites from their line include this facial oil + this red algae mask for detoxing my skin….
I use this Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist morning and night, right after I cleanse my skin. It gives me a jolt of hydration and works to reduce the redness and blemishes on my skin (which, in all honesty, blemishes have been more frequent this pregnancy).
I own three of Volition’s skincare products and have been happy with all of them. This is their snow mushroom water serum and it works to reduce the appearance of pores and lines by infusing moisture. I use it morning and night before my moisturizer.
What I love about this Korres moisturizer is that it works to brighten and hydrate my skin… it’s a thicker consistency, which I really like for giving my face the moisture it requires. It brightens skin with vitamin-C and I use it before bedtime.
This Herbivore Moisturizing Cream is my daytime, before make-up, moisturizer. I use it as a make-up primer as well, and love how smoothly my make-up goes on… it almost makes for a flawless finish.
The ultimate mask for infusing moisture into my skin…. this Summer Fridays mask is perfect for reviving my skin. I use it 1-2 times a week, in the evening, and I can visibly tell a difference in the glow of my skin when I take it off. I also use it as my daytime under eye cream and it helps to reduce any lines.
Another volition product favorite is their eye cream… I prefer to use it in the evening, but it works great in the mornings as well. It really helps to reduce puffiness and dryness… and I’m especially appreciative of the puffiness reduction….
This brightening mask acts as an exfoliator and truly brightens my skin complexion and leaves it glowing. I use it three days a week, and my skin feels so soft and smooth.
