Over the past few weeks I have been on the hunt for the perfect chambray dress. Then I stumbled upon this one. I was drawn to its unique shape. The tie front, side slit, front button details made it stand apart from other traditional chambray dresses. It was casual and dressy. The side-slit made it a little edgy. I liked it. I bought it.

Why am I loving chambray dresses as of late? They’re a blank canvas. Just like my past “elevated” series posts (here, here, here, here), pieces, and outfits, that are essentially neutral allow for easy dressing with simple accessories (often items I already own like this necklace and jacket). The chambray dress is so basic, that by adding a few key pieces, anyone can look like they spent hours getting ready. It can take me from a day of exploring, brunch with girlfriends, and a Spring/Summer night out when paired with the perfect jacket. It looks pulled together, without trying too hard, is easy to toss on and wear with kiddos, and best of all? It makes getting dressed a little bit easier. Which is exactly what closet staples should do.
