Two Healthy & Delicious Smoothies: Berry Blast & Chocolate Banana

To be perfectly honest, during my pregnancy, I was never overcome with intense hunger. Yet this whole breastfeeding thing has me massively famished. All day. Especially when I walk past the kitchen at 3:30am to feed my little one… I often can’t tell if it’s fatigue or true hunger, but either way, it’s there. My solution to keeping up my clean and healthy eating during this time is to plan ahead with healthy options. My mom has been making grocery store trips for me, so on the top of the lists I give to her are lots of fruits and veggies so that I can make simple, healthy, and delicious smoothies. Two recent favorites include this Chocolate Banana Delight and Berry Blast (I like a little alliteration now and then…).

The chocolate banana smoothie quenches any sweet craving I have, in a healthy way, by using dates as a sweetener. For breakfast, I often replace my usual oatmeal with the berry smoothie. Both options leave me feeling satisfied and healthy! They are both dairy free, as I made a simple swap to unsweetened vanilla almond milk, as opposed to any yogurt option. Trust me though, you won’t even taste the difference!

Chocolate Banana Delight

3-4 dates (pit them, and soak them in water for about 15 minutes to soften them in the blender)
1/2 banana
1 tablespoon cacao powder (or 3/4 tablespoon depending how much chocolate flavor you want)
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup ice cubes

** Place all ingredients in the blender, in the order they are listed above. Blend on a high setting to ensure the dates are blended well.
