The Denim Edit || My Go-To Denim For The Spring Season

I’m not sure where this week has gone, but here we are on Thursday, and the post I had scheduled for Tuesday is finally finished. I knew heading into the week that it would be disjointed between the girl’s “off” schedules (one off Monday, another Thursday and Friday), then Valentine’s Day activities, and doctor’s appointments… but I didn’t realize it would feel that off.

Regardless, I’m excited to share my go-to denim for the spring season today. Denim has to be one of my favorite pieces to wear. I love how a good pair of jeans can transform an outfit, and can easily take you from day to night with a few easy swaps. It’s definitely an area in my closet that I am willing to invest. Which likely comes from the fact that I used to loathe shopping for jeans. Being short, I felt as if nothing fit right… and over the years I’ve honed in on what works for me (and doesn’t)… to the point that I actually enjoy picking out a new pair of jeans.

I’ve included sizing notes on each pair below, and I hope it’s helpful if you’re looking to add a new pair, or two, to your wardrobe this spring season.

And with that, I hope everyone has a great day ahead!

As I’ve mentioned here before, I’m a fan of the trouser look and style, but a traditional trouser just doesn’t feel as if it has a practical place in my wardrobe. That being said, I’m always looking for good alternatives to the tailored style, and these COH Trouser Jeans are just that. They have the laid back look and feel of denim, while being incredibly soft and comfortable, and an easy style to dress up or down. I’ve worn them for date nights, happy hour, and casual everyday life. I would say they run true to size, These are not short gal friendly, but they are 100% worth paying to have them hemmed.

I purchase the Riley Straight leg jean a year ago when I went on the hunt for a good straight leg jean, that wasn’t too loose fitting… and these fit the bill perfectly. If you’re looking to venture out of skinny jeans, I think these are a great option. They aren’t baggy, and have a true straight leg fit to them. I do want to make a couple of sizing notes for them:

1.They are short gal friendly, so the hem you see is they hem they came with

2.They are 100% cotton, so they have a snug fit. They will stretch slightly over time, but if you’re between sizes, I recommend sizing up with these.

3.I find the calf on these to run a bit narrow. I mention that because when I do a cycling workout, I can feel that they are a tad more snug around the calf area… just something to note if you experience something similar.

I wrote all about these DL1961 Patti ecru jeans and how my search for the perfect pair led to so much procrastination. That being said, they really are great. They have a high waisted fit, a bit of stretch to them, and the denim is nice and soft. I also find them to be the most beautiful “ecru” shade and they pair perfectly with a true white top (which was exactly what I was going for). I did find them to run a bit small, and sized up in them, as well as cut the hem.

While most of these jeans are a “traditional” style, the cuff hem jeans are sort of a throw back to those days when jeans were too long (then again, that’s always for a short gal) and you just rolled them up to make them work…. Yet for some reason these feel a bit more stylish, which I attribute to the looser fitting leg styles and higher waisted fit. Anyway, all of that to say, these two pairs are newer for me, but I can’t recommend them more. The Dame style (black pair) is incredibly chic and I absolutely love dressing them up. I wore them to a friend’s 40th birthday, The Lion King, and I’m bringing them along this weekend for a little getaway. I invested in The Fran style in the denim color, with a shorter inseam, so that I could wear the style casually for daytime. The Fran style pairs so well with sneakers, flats, sandals, and booties… and easily dresses up and down.

I do find both pairs to run a bit big, so I would recommend sizing down.

For the Dame pair, I did have to have them hemmed, but again, 100% worth it

Another great straight leg jean that I recommend is the Pinch Waist style from AGOLDE. They are fitted in the waist and then loose and straight around the legs, creating a great effortless style (I actually own this style in a few shades). You can easily dress these up or down, and they work really well with all shoe styles. These are 100% cotton, but I recommend taking your regular size in these.
(Black Denim Jacket, Black Tank, Grey Tank)

If you’re in the market for a wide leg jean, then I can’t recommend The Hepburn style more. I have these in multiple washes (eggshell shade here), because they’re so comfortable. They have a great stretch to them and the denim is very soft. They are so beautiful when paired with booties, slides, and high top sneakers (those are the shoes I prefer to pair them with), and the white is great for spring and summer (although I wear the white all year). They are a slimmer fit through the hips and then wider in the leg area, so I think they’re very flattering. I wear my true size in these, but if you’re between sizes I recommend taking one size up.

I find the Curve jeans to be the biggest hit or miss among people (haha). I’ve had my eye on the style for a while now, but knew that if I didn’t find the right pair they would overwhelm me. This high waisted curve jean from Everlane is perfect. They have a shorter inseam option which is great for shorter gals (although, depending on height, you might have to cut them hem a tad…), and it doesn’t overwhelm a shorter frame. There isn’t any stretch in the denim, so if you’re between sizes, I would recommend sizing up in these.
