Everyday Style || My Go-To Shorts For The Summer Season

I’ve usually retired my jeans by this point in the season, and begun to rely solely on lightweight pants and shorts. Yet we returned home from Hawaii to more June Gloom (the sun did poke out around 7pm last night…) and the daytime temps are still a bit cool (for So. Cal standards) so jeans have been more of the norm than usual….

All that to say, the weather is supposed to warm up, and the skies are supposed to be sunny this coming weekend, and if that forecast holds true, I’ll be quickly pulling out all my favorite shorts. Yet I know the summer will hit with full force, sooner rather than later, and when the fall season hits, I’ll be lamenting about how warm it still is… so for now, I’ll just be patient….

In the meantime, I rounded up some of my go-to shorts for the summer season below… I’ve had most of them for several years (one pair since 2019) and they’re the pairs I know I’ll be reaching for once summer hits. I shared fit and sizing info below as well, and I hope it’s helpful if you’re on the hunt for a good summer short.

And with that, I hope that everyone has a great weekend ahead! We have a celebratory weekend planned with my mom’s birthday, and Father’s Day… so lots of quality family time, that I’m looking forward to! See you next week….

(also, a reminder that SHOPBOP gave me a 20% off code for first time purchases, ITSYBISTY20 for the month of June)

AGOLDE PARKER CUT-OFFS

The AGOLDE Parker cut-offs are one of my favorite pairs of shorts for the summer season. They have a longer inseam, and a loose fit, which makes them comfortable and practical (I can bend over without worrying about my booty popping out….). I own them in the black and white as well and I can’t recommend them more. I purchased mine 2.5 years ago, so I’m not sure if they’re changed their sizing, but I sized down when I purchased mine as I found them to run a bit tight…. others have noted that the sizing is more tts now though.
They also make a darker, non-distressed wash, which I also got this year (haven’t had a chance to wear them much yet since the weather has been so dreary….). And they’re tts.

MILA LINEN SHORTS

These linen shorts have been one of my favorites since 2019- they’re easy to throw on and go, the linen is quintessentially summer, and the cuff elevates them… you can wear them with so many different tops and shoes, and they’re just great for the summer season. They released a new style this year, and they come with pockets now- even more reason to love them! This is the oatmeal color, but I also own them int the stripes, as well as the black.

J.CREW LINEN BLEND SHORTS

Another great pair of linen shorts, new to me this season. They’re very comfortable, chic with pockets, and I’ve already worn them so many times. They have a longer inseam, which is nice as well. I also own them in black. I think they are fairly true to size, but if you’re between sizes I would recommend sizing down…

SEZANE DEIA SHORTS

I bought these Deia shorts last season and I love them so much… the cinched, belted, waist and pleating details makes them feel like a step up from casual shorts, but the fit of them makes them so comfortable. When the weather finally gets warm enough, these will be on heavy rotation again this summer season. When I purchased them last year, they didn’t have my regular size, so I went up a size. They’re on the more oversized side, so if you want yours more streamlined I would take your regular size.

REFORMAITON ZOEY LINEN SHORTS

Yes, another pair of linen shorts, I just love linen for summer. These have a fun swingy shape to them, and they have a drawstring detailing that is super cute. The wider leg opening, combined with the drawstring, make them supremely comfortable! They come in white and oatmeal as well…

CREAM CUT-OFFS

These are a newer pair this summer season, but what drew me to them was the cream coloring. I love my cream jeans and how they contrast beautifully with pure white shades and wanted something similar in shorts for the summer season. Enter this pair. They are high waisted, with a 5″ inseam, and a nice amount of stretch, making them super comfortable. The shorts are more fitted so if you’re between sizes I would recommend taking one size up. It looks like they’re on sale for under $60!

STRIPED CABANA SHORTS

I love these elastic waist cabana shorts in the tan + white, as well as this light blue and white (these are under $60), style. They’re easy to throw on and go during the summer months, and work as a swim coverup as well. You can snag the matching tops too for a super chic look! Both of them run true to size.
(White Top)

LOUNGE SHORTS

I love a good lounge short… wear them around the house on a lazy day, or elevate them a bit for out and about! I have a lot of pairs I turn to, but a lot of them are sold out… but this black pair from Varley and this performance pair from Vuori are two favorites. You can easily elevate both pairs for outings (sports field, play dates, coffee, running errands, etc….), and both pairs are made from amazingly soft fabric, that doesn’t stretch and sag as you wear them throughout the day. Can’t recommend them more!
