Music & Your Mood!

music

Driving into work the other MONDAY morning, I couldn’t help but feel a little “eh” about the fact that it was the beginning of yet another week. Then I changed the radio station and on came “Manic Monday” by the Bengals and I couldn’t help but turn the volume up, smile, and sing along in my car (you’re invisible in your car anyway… no one can see you jamming out). This jam fest reminded me of an article I had recently read in “Women’s Health” magazine that addressed “Your body on… Music. (click to check it out). Among the benefits noted were that when your brain hears music, and determines that you are enjoying the music, natural happy/feel good chemicals are released (dopamine to be specific)! The music can trigger memories (both happy and sad) and mellow music can help decrease the release of cortisol (a stress hormone) in the body. One of the best effects?? Almost all kinds of music appear to have a squashing effect on pain and anxiety! Here are a list of songs for four various moments in your week/day! Enjoy!
