Simple Indulgence

Dessert is a must for me. I need something sweet after pretty much every meal. Usually this is just a Hershey’s Kiss or something small like that, but after dinner dessert is where I splurge. However, there are healthy ways to indulge, right?

I recently discovered this sweet treat one night when I was craving ice cream. Whenever I crave ice cream, I direct that craving to frozen yogurt, dessert’s healthier cousin. However, I didn’t want to go out and pick any up, so I decided to put some vanilla greek yogurt in the freezer and see what would happen. Turns out it’s delicious! Here’s what you do:

~Pick a greek yogurt…my favorite is Dannon’s Light and Fit Vanilla-it has only 7g of sugar, 0g fat, and 80 calories-maintains the super sweet flavor with half the sugar! Put it in the freezer for half hour to an hour. This gives it the frozen yogurt texture and temperature.

~When you’re ready to take it out of the freezer, add whatever toppings you like! I add sprinkles and crushed up Trader Joe’s Chocolately Cats cookies. It’s like a dessert version of a parfait! You could also add fruit, nuts, etc!

Here are some other reasons I love this dessert/greek yogurt in general:

~Greek yogurt contains probiotics that regular yogurt does not contain (those bacteria that are so helpful to digestion and keep you regular!), and it has less lactose, making it easier to digest.

~Greek yogurt has double the amount of protein, and significantly less carbs as regular yogurt. Regular yogurt can have up to 18g of sugar-greek yogurt has 7g or less!

~Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute for so many things in cooking. Think mayonnaise, sour cream, etc!

Anytime a dessert can actually benefit you, eat it! Enjoy!!
