It’s been a minute… which, at this point, might be how I start every post here. The last time I sat down to write, September was still a couple of weeks away and we had a full month of summer ahead of us. Now we’re a few days into fall—at least according to the calendar. The weather has other ideas.
I’ve always maintained that there are really only two months when jeans feel unbearable in Southern California: August, which is a hard pass, plus part of July and part of September. Those two parts add up to a month in my mind, and I’m sticking with that math. The rest of the year, denim is fair game. Still, there are certain pairs I reach for more once fall rolls around, so today I’m sharing those favorites.
Full disclosure: I do not love shopping for jeans. Being short means the petite pair is often the right length but feels off everywhere else. The regular pair fits better… and then requires approximately a mile of hemming. Worth it for the right pair, but finding that pair can be a journey.
This season, I wanted a really dark rinse, and I think I tried on 12 pairs before finding a full-length style I loved. I also found a dark rinse barrel pair, which needed alterations. A little tip if you’re short and have yours hemmed: ask your tailor to taper the bottom so you keep that barrel shape.
So, here are the pairs I reach for most each fall. Many have been in my closet for several seasons, which puts them firmly in the elite category. If denim shopping tests your patience too, I hope this makes the search a little easier.
Have a wonderful weekend!
