When I think about basics, I think about items that are so simple they can literally mix and match with anything… those pieces you grab for when you’re in a hurry because you know they’re comfortable + practical, yet still allow you to feel pulled together. Having a wardrobe that is predominantly filled with basics (as opposed to more “specialty” items) really allows me to get so much wear (and my monies worth) out of clothing pieces.
Obviously my monthly capsule wardrobes are usually a mix of many of my go-to basics, but for today I thought I would give you 10 basics that I know I’ll be living in this summer season… great for home, backyard get togethers, or wherever your plans take you….
MY GO-TO BASICS FOR SUMMER
Everlane Athletic Slides: I bought these as a “we’ll see” if I like them. They have quickly become such an easy throw on and go basic that I’ve worn several times a week since receiving them (about 7 weeks ago). They’re tight at first but after an hour or so loosen up… I’m a true 6.5 but went up to a 7 in these (they only come in half sizes). No blisters for me either. I wear them with leggings, biker shorts, lounge shorts, and denim shorts.
The Air Cami: This tank is such an easy option to just toss on and is incredibly versatile. Super lightweight, it doesn’t even feel as if I’m wearing anything. I wear mine for lounging or with my denim favorites. Great for warm summer days and easy for summer nights with a comfy pair of lounge pants. Mine is in the “clay” color-way.
The Air Scoop Neck Tee: Same material + lightweight fit as the cami above, this basic scoop neck tee is super comfortable, well made, and my go-to when I literally don’t know what to wear. I simple pull out a favorite pair of shorts, fully tuck it in, toss on some gold accessories, and I’m ready. To get the loose fit you see above, I went up a size.
Oversized Tan Tee: When I’m wanting to wear biker shorts, or just want something that feels loose + oversized, this tee is a great option. It has very slight distressing at the neckline and has great length. I love the tan color since it basically goes with everything. The fit is oversized, and I went down a size and still found it held the “oversized” fit.
AGOLDE Parker Shorts: Pretty much my go-to basic pair of denim shorts for the past several summers (3 to be exact). They just fit so well, have the perfect amount of distressing, and they have a shorter inseam that still covers my booty. I do find they fit tts, but if you’re between sizes it’s best to size down.
Linen Shorts: I love linen for the summer months. Lightweight + feel so pulled together. I wear mine at least once a week… as a bathing suit coverup or just for everyday life (because, let’s face it, it’s not like I’m doing a ton right now…). They’re great for day or night and are really versatile. I found an almost identical pair to the ones I have here and I am considering them in the white (love the matching set).
Levi’s 501 Crop Jeans: Jeans and the summer don’t always go together, but when they’re a looser, cropped, fit I think they’re so comfortable. Especially when paired with a lightweight tank and easy slides. I’ve had this pair for about a year now and they fit like a glove and are so comfortable. I did have to cut the hem to make them shorts, but other than that they were a perfect fit.
Spanx Biker Shorts (or Align): Biker shorts evoke mixed reviews, but for those who love them these are my two go-to pairs. For me, they’re like summer leggings… and I can wear them with an oversized tee and slides for a super easy and pulled together look. I lived in them last summer and plan on doing the same this year as well. The spanx pair runs small, I sized up + the Align pair runs tts and they’re buttery soft (and they were restocked).
Oversized Linen Button-down: Literally, wear with everything… fully tucked in with jeans, front knotted with denim shorts, as a swim coverup for those pool/beach days… an oversized linen top is my favorite for the summer…. and an instant way to feel pulled together, even if it’s just to the pool or sitting in the backyard hanging out.
T-Shirt Dress: I bought this one back in May (and got one for my mom for Mother’s Day too). It’s so easy to just thrown on and head out the door… wear a straw hat and slides for a feminine look or sneakers and a cap for a sportier look/feel. It also works as a cover-up too. It’s a great price point and excellent quality… and comes in several great colors. I own it in the canvas color.
AGOLDE Ribbed Tank: I grab this tank when I want something that’s fitted, flattering, and gives the look/feel of a bodysuit without the “full suit” feel. The ribbing is thicker, so it lays nicely and will last for seasons. I own it in white and black and it’s another piece that can be worn for a night out, evening in, with joggers, or shorts. Fits TTS and the stretch is amazing.
