Baby Shower Recap

When the idea of a baby shower was brought to my attention I initially said I didn’t want one. I’ve never been a huge fan of shower games… and being the center of attention makes me slightly uncomfortable. Yet, as I talked it over with my mom, sister, and a good friend, we decided that we could make the shower more of a “ladies” day. Now that was something I could agree to!

Honestly, the day exceeded all of my expectations. My mom, sister, and childhood friend went above and beyond to make the day one I will never forget (and one that I can’t wait to share with Harper when she is old enough to see all the women who love and support her already). I had friends who flew in from out of state and county, friends I had known since birth and elementary school, and wonderful ladies who journeyed with me through college and graduate school. I also had the wonderful women who my mom calls friends, and whom I have known for many years, join in on the celebration. There was the woman who drove as part of our neighborhood elementary school carpool, the family that I babysat for in middle school, and women who watched me move through middle school, high school, college, and then onto marriage. My grandmother provided her words of wisdom and having my mother and Aunt there made it that much more meaningful (as I see my sister and myself in them). I realized that all of the people there were individuals I had known for 10 plus years, and I couldn’t help but feel honored.

One of my girlfriends posted a photo from the shower talking about walking beside me in this journey into motherhood. That resonated and encapsulated what the shower represented for me. All of the women present were individuals who I hope to be able to draw advice from, support from, and laughs from as TJ and I navigate our way into the world of parenthood. How could I feel anything but blessed at the end of the day?

One of my favorite activities of the day was having each lady write a birthday card to Harper. On each plate there was a birthday card with a specific year (18th, 16th, etc….) all the way up to the number of guests that were present. I don’t know what the contents of the cards say (as they are signed and sealed), but I made a small request that they provide Harper with a few words of wisdom as she enters that age group… and I made sure my grandmother (who will be her great-grandmoteher) completed her 18th birthday card 🙂 A little something special to await her in the years ahead.

{The cake had two different flavors… white chocolate and lemon curd with blueberries. My grandmother also brought Valenza Chocolatier chocolates and limoncello}

{We found the most delicious “preggatini” with lavender soda and rosemary leaves… and then of course a mimosa bar and some rose for those able to sip and savor}
