One of the greatest indulgences in my life is traveling, especially with the hubby! We just returned from a two week trip to the South of France and Barcelona. There is something about vacation that I wish I could bottle up and use on a daily basis. There is a level of lightness that you simply can’t feel during a typical work week. No time schedule, no one to answer to, and no pressures of daily life. For the hubby and me it’s a time to reconnect… and I’ll tell you, that happens real quick when you’re in a foreign country! With my mediocre french (the French let  me know that too!) and the hubby’s conversational Spanish (which was good enough that we were somehow mistaken for a Brazilian couple!), we truly had to rely on one another to get around. We had to compromise and laugh at ourselves when things didn’t go right or when we didn’t understand what the menu, or the other person we were talking to, said. It was during the moments when we were sitting there together, all the conversations going around us that we couldn’t understand, that I would feel the most connected. All we had was each other, and it’s a pretty amazing feeling to be able to trust that the person sitting across from you was in this with you! We spent time at local restaurants trying out the cuisine and talking to locals to understand the culture better. Most importantly, we spent time doing what WE wanted to do… because isn’t that what vacation is all about??
