Weekend Recap: Palm Springs

itsy bitsy indulgences, palm springs{Little miss’ first desert experience (dress)}

A couple of weeks ago, after Hawaii, wanderlust hit TJ and me pretty hard. So, we decided it was time to make our first summer trip out to the desert… and introduce Harper to a place we love so much. Having visited the Palm Springs area for the past 11 years of our “couple” relationship, we were eager to see how we would be able to integrate her into past traditions, while creating new ones as a family of three. It’s not always an easy process, as the past experiences were special, and it is sometimes hard to veer from what you know and expect. Yet, as the weekend commenced, we found it easy to create new traditions, while still maintaining and respecting our past memories. When we headed to breakfast on Sunday morning, we laughed as we looked around the room. First, we were the only ones with a little one in tow. Literally. Second, we were likely the only ones not nursing a hangover… which, in all honesty, would have been us 3 years ago. And that right there is the quintessential progression of life…. and you have a few choices. You can either live in the past and yearn for it, or you can move forward, thankful for all you have been blessed with, and integrate the past with the present. The latter has been what has worked for us… and what we will continue to do. So…. in that light, here is to a week of honoring the past, bringing pieces of it to the present, and living life to the fullest.

_____________

I seriously can’t believe that the 4th of July is this coming weekend! Last year we made these delicious chocolate covered bananas… which I’m seriously considering bringing to a few bbqs.  I’m also contemplating making this black bean salsa, or these sweet potato nachos, for a get together with a few friends.

I finally decided on my outfits for this coming weekend. I purchased this red and white striped dress, and plan on pairing it with these slides and my favorite denim jacket for the cooler evenings. I also snatched these white denim shorts and striped red and white tank… you can never go wrong with that combo.

I’ve been in the market for a new pair of platform kicks. I’m vacillating between these white espadrilles, this tan pair, and this neutral textured pair. I love the little bit of added height they give, while still being incredibly functional and stylish.

We have a few bbqs on the calendar this weekend and I can’t wait. So, in addition to the outfits above, I’m going to be bringing this lightweight roll sleeve sweater, cotton sweater, and blue and white striped flutter sleeve top. I’m also loving these fringe sandals, which are on major sale. I’m also eyeing a few floral dresses, perfect when paired with some sandals for a casual evening with friends. My favorites are this racerback maxi, cold shoulder white floral number, and this halter swing dress.

Even though it’s hotter than you know what right now, I’m still loving summer denim… and these three pieces are all under $100… a good black pair of cropped raw hemmed jeans, basic blue cropped jeans, and a great pair of distressed skinnies… I always love pairing summer denim with a good tank and sandals.
