I stumbled across an article last week that broke down how the time we spend with others across our lives. The results were summarized as follows:
Time spent alone steadily increases throughout your life…
Time spent with children peaks in your 30s and declines sharply thereafter (in essence, time with your children is short- the magic years fly by if you let them)
Time spent with co-workers is steady during the prime working years from ages 20-40
Time spent with your parents + siblings peaks in childhood and declines after age 20 (in essence, time with family is limited)
Time spent with partner trends upward until death
Time spent with friends peaks at age 18 and declines sharply to a low baseline (depth > breadth)
And….
Family time is limited- cherish it
Friend time is limited- prioritize real ones
Partner time is significant- never settle
Children time is precious- be present
Coworker time is significant- find energy
Alone time is highest- love yourself
I read the article a few times, and while a lot of it seemed relatively common sense, when you see the data sitting in front of you like that, it’s a pretty good reminder of how who we choose to keep company with can have a significant impact on our lives (also, coming from my experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I also believe that “family” can be those you choose… not necessarily blood).
So as we came to the end of the weekend, late Sunday afternoon, Harper and Camille asked TJ and me if we would play soccer with them in the backyard. After a busy couple of days, TJ and I were both pretty tired and definitely could have benefitted from watching them play together (and cheering them on along the sideline…). But with that article fresh in the back of my mind, we soon found ourselves in an adults versus kids soccer match that lasted well over 30 minutes and ended with laughs, memories, and a sweet family moment at the end of a busy weekend.
And with that, I hope everyone had a great weekend and a good start to the week ahead!
____
(A casual Thursday night dinner with the family… jeans, sweater (another option), bag (another option))
(Friday morning sunrise…)
(Kicked off the weekend with a morning spent with my mom looking at the Halloween Display at Roger’s Gardens… always a great spot to get some inspo… pants, tank, sandals, bag)
(A chilly Friday night on the water for sunset… jeans, cardigan, wrap (all 25% off))
(Casual + comfortable for a couple of hours at the soccer field on Saturday… leggings, sneakers, bag, tee)
(Sunday morning at the Farmer’s Market… these pulots were so good)
(Then a bike ride over to my parent’s house for an afternoon BBQ + football… leggings, cardigan, sneakers)

If you’re looking for a bit of fall family inspo, I love this floral dress paired with these boots (or these boots), earrings, and belt. I also love this paisley print dress, but it’s more of an investment piece.
Bloomingdale’s is having their Friends + Family Sale where most items are 25% off. I own this cashmere button front cardigan in grey and camel and it’s so soft and great for fall (not super heavy). I also have this cashmere wrap in 2 colors as well… can’t recommend it more (I have it in a sesame color as well as a grey)… I first purchased it 3 years ago and wear it all the time during the cooler months. A few other items I own that are on sale, and that I would recommend, include:
these wide legged jeans (very soft…)
straight leg cargo pants
black wide legged jeans
cream colored jeans (I sized up in these since they run a tad small)
my go-to leather jacket (I bought this in 2019 and it’s still my favorite… it runs very small, I went up 2 full sizes)
And while I don’t own these items, I think they would be great for a special occasion: this drop waist dress (would be so cute with boots), tie front cardigan, lace midi dress, velvet strapless dress, and this long-sleeve occasion dress.
Haven Well Within is having 25% off sitewide… a few items I own and would recommend include these washable silk pajamas (top here)… so soft and luxurious. As well as this 100% organic cotton cardigan (looks like the Jenni Kayne one… for under $100)… I did size up in that one for a looser fit (I have it in the olive). I also love these oat colored wide legged lounge pants and pullover… so chic paired together.
