The majority of our Labor Day weekend’s weather was overcast and drizzly, with a beautiful day on Monday, and then yesterday was overcast and in the low 70’s…. fast forward and this weekend’s temps are going to hit the mid 90’s. Which is always a reminder to me that this time of the year is typically like a yo-yo and fairly inconsistent.
All of that to say, it makes creating a September capsule wardrobe, that’s applicable to everyone, a bit more difficult since I know that for some the weather will get cooler much quicker than in Southern California… and for others, it will stay warmer longer… and still others will experience much of the same up and down (mostly up, typically) weather pattern that we experience.
So this month’s capsule (and really all of them) is designed to be flexible… by that I mean, I have cut-offs and jeans. If temps where you live are cooler, swap out the black cut-offs for black jeans, and vice versa. If it’s too warm for the fisherman sweater, wear one of the oversized button downs I shared. If I suggest an outfit that would require a top layer for you, any of the ones I have here (or something you own that’s similar) will work. If I suggest sandals, but that’s too cold, swap them out for sneakers, flats, or any other shoe that would fit the occasion. And while I can’t create a capsule that 100% works for everyone, I hope it can work for the majority of people.
Everything, with the exception of two items, have been in past capsules, or seasonal collections… and brought back for this month. That’s the beautiful thing about wardrobe classics, you can make them work across seasons with some simple wardrobe shifts.
Now a few style notes:
This cream shirt jacket is one of the new pieces and it’s amazing. The perfect lightweight top layer for mornings/evenings that might require one… or a cooler office setting. I wore it to jury duty last week with the linen pants and white tank and it was perfect.
This cotton fisherman sweater, another new piece to the collection, is a great compromise between a heavier fall sweater, and a summer knit. It’s a great weight, and the cotton fabric makes it very breathable. This is an under $50 option that looks almost identical.
If you’re thinking you need to incorporate some closed toe shoes (that aren’t sneakers) instead of sandals I just purchased these Mary Jane ballet flats (so chic) and also love these mules in the golden oak shade.
