San Diego Day of Fitness #4

This is the last post in our series highlighting our “San Diego Day of Fitness” with lululemon ambassador and spin instructor Sheri Matthews. I’m nostalgic as I write this post because it was truly a wonderful and memorable day! Before I highlight the last two places, I just want to take a moment to say that fitness can be so FUN! If you find the activity that is right for you and the right people to motivate you, it truly won’t feel like work. It can actually feel like play! Our day of fitness was grueling and challenging… but it never once felt that way. We were with amazing women and inspiring fitness instructors who all made the day feel like a “play-date” versus a “work-out day.” So, as we come to the end of the series, I hope you will find something that works for you to keep that balance that we so firmly believe in!

NOW! We will start with THE RUSH INDOOR CYCLING STUDIO

The Rush Cycling Studio is an incredible place. Most gyms and studios have a sterile feel to them. Yet, The Rush had a boutique  feeling to it all the way from check-in to the bathrooms (yes, I said it, they were that serene!). The owners, Corey and Tim, have a great story. They were both entrepreneurs who loved cycling, so they decided to open up a cycling studio in La Jolla, Ca (not a shabby place if you ask me!). Their main goal for the studio was to create a boutique like experience (which was definitely accomplished) that was both enjoyable and non-intimidating. Classes are conducted in the dark with neon lights and motivating music! There is absolutely no time to think about how hard you are working with all these amazingly invigorating elements! Unique to the studio are their “themed” rides… like country? or how about Jay Z and Timberlake? You’ll find what you’re looking for here, no doubt! Expect to be in awe of how fun a workout can be at The Rush! Oh! Remember Sheri and Trish?? They are both instructors here too!

The last activity we have to share was our experience at  SPIRIT YOGA!

Taking a Yoga Class at Spirit Yoga was restorative  and centering. The vinyasa flow that Steve, our instructor and founder at Spirit Yoga, put us through was truly challenging. One statement that Steve made during the class was “Don’t force anything. When you force you are met with resistance.” That became my mantra for the practice, and it still reverberates with me today. It’s applicable to all of life. Have you ever tried to “force” someone to change? What happened? Have you ever tried to “force” yourself to be someone you aren’t? I can guess what happened then. A good yoga class will do that to you… it will make you reflect on an aspect of your practice and how that can be applied and generalized to all of life. If you’re in the San Diego area I can’t encourage you enough to check out Spirit Yoga! If you’re not in the area, I hope you’ll find a yoga studio and give it a chance! You won’t regret it.

That’s the conclusion of our day of fitness! Any fitness requests, just let us know!!!
