16 Wardrobe Essentials For Spring

I was on my run yesterday morning, and couldn’t help but realize how much brighter it was. Just a month ago I was heading out for my runs in the dark… and now I’m just before sunrise. It’s always an indicator to me that daylight savings is right around the corner. And it’s hard to believe that’s this coming weekend.

Daylight savings time usually marks the start of spring for us… and with it officially arriving in a couple of weeks, I’m excited for this spring season. And in honor of it, I decided to round up my wardrobe staples for this season. These are all items I’ve shared before, some from last season, which is how I know they will make great staples for any wardrobe…. they’re easy to mix and match, transition from casual to slightly less casual (haha), and should keep you feeling comfortable and pulled together….

In the fall I tend to move my wardrobe towards darker shades… blacks, greys, chocolates, and deep mauve colors… but in the spring I love lightening things up with white, ivory, cream, and camel shades… as you can see in the following photos. I have each piece styled below and I’m including a quick summary as to why they make a great staple. Hope it helps!

(Ribbed Cardigan | Trench Coat | White Jeans | 90’s Fit Jeans | Quilted Jacket (similar option under $70) | Basic White Tee | White Joggers + Sweatshirt | Cut-Offs | Tan Leggings | Linen Shorts | White Ribbed Tank | Long Sleeve Ribbed Top (another similar option) | Cashmere Tee | White Sweat Shorts | Flowy Dress (under $60 option here))

RIBBED TANK + WHITE DENIM

I bought this ribbed tank at the beginning of February and love it. It has a built in bra so it removes the issue of finding one that works with the neckline. It’s such a great top to wear solo, or layered under a spring jacket or sweater… it can also easily pair with shorts when temps get really warm…

And this 90’s pair of white denim has quickly become my favorite… the high waist fit, with loose legs, is a great cut for spring… pair them with sneakers, mules, sandals, or heels this spring season… I do recommend going down one size, as they will stretch a little (and, as always, I cut them hem on mine…).

WHITE SET + TRENCH COAT

This trench coat has such a great oversized fit and is the perfect lightweight layer for spring… love that it can easily be dressed up, or down, depending on what you choose to pair it with… the price of this one is great, and love that it’s also sustainably made. I recommend going with your regular size…

And this white jogger and sweatshirt set is lightweight and love that each piece can be worn separately with other items listed in this post… white makes each piece really versatile! I sized up in the sweatshirt but took my regular size in the joggers.

QUILTED JACKET + 90’S JEANS

I purchased this quilted jacket as a “let’s see if it works out…” and loved it the moment I took it out of the box. It’s a cropped fit with the lighter, tan color, so it feels like it’s perfect for spring. I love it paired with white denim, and it can work over a dress, with shorts, and with joggers as well… you can easily layer underneath (I’m wearing it with a sweatshirt and tee under) or just wear a basic tee. I also found a longer version, that’s under $70, here

And I’ve worn these 90’s pinch waist jeans too many times to count… these loose fitting jeans… or these girlfriend fitted jeans… all work as well…

BASIC WHITE TEE + TAN LEGGINGS

These tan leggings and basic white tee are year around basics for me… easily to wear with other items that make them seasonally appropriate….

I always recommend leggings in the cooler months, and then switch to biker shorts in the summer season… but I love tan leggings for the spring to freshen things up a bit (I know I’ve said that several times already…).

CASHMERE TEE

I love a good cashmere tee for spring because it keeps you warm, and looks chic… and, in the tan shade, it’s super versatile.

RIBBED CARDIGAN + LOOSE FIT CUT-OFFS

I think a good ribbed cardigan is a great basic to have all year… and I love how effortless it looks with a pair of cut-offs.

I bought this pair of cut-offs last March. They have a longer inseam, a high waisted fit, and I reach for them all the time (they do run large, so I recommend sizing down for sure). A good pair of cut-offs are a great basic to have on hand when the temps warm up..

RIBBED TOP

I’ve shared this top so many times… you can see it styled several different ways in this post… but I love the fit and it looks great with anything high waisted.

I purchased this blush seersucker flowy dress last summer and fully intend to wear it throughout this spring and summer… it’s so comfortable and can easily be “warmed up” by wearing a ribbed cardigan with it (included a photo of that above). It’s fully lined, so not see through. It’s on the pricier side, so I found this option, which is very similar and under $60.

WHITE SWEAT SHORTS

And since I love joggers so much, I always recommend lounge shorts for warmer months… an easy way to feel comfortable and stay cool. I bought these white ones (here is another pair that looks almost identical…) at the end of summer 2020 and they look great with sweaters, tees, jackets, and sweatshirts… and depending on how I style them they can be sporty or perfect for the beach.

LINEN SHORTS

And lastly, these go-to elastic waistband linen shorts were a summer 2019 purchase… but I wore them non-stop the past two seasons, and no doubt will continue to as temps warm up. They are easy to throw on over a swimsuit… or layer with a sweater… or just a long sleeve tee and a denim jacket. I bought my regular size, but if you’re between sizes, sizing up might be best as some people noted the waist band was fitted on them….
