It’s never been a secret that I have a love affair with traveling the world. I love the feeling of being in a far off place, with people I love, and getting lost in the culture and feel of a new location. One place that has always had a piece of my heart is Paris (you can find the most recent trip here). My first visit to Paris was 14 years ago when I studied abroad for a summer in France. The stay in Paris was short, 5 hours at most, and left me with an insatiable desire to return.
Knowing that desire within me, my grandmother (and grandfather’s) gift for my high school graduation was a trip to Paris. I was beside myself with excitement…. and knew that I had the best tour guide around, since my grandmother had been numerous times before. As we prepared for our journey, she sent over brochures and suggestions, asking me what I wanted to do. A Seine dinner cruise was atop of that list…. along with a visit to the Eiffel Tower (a given, I know), and of course shopping…. something both my grandmother and I knew how to do well.
I went into the trip knowing exactly what I was looking for on those long shopping days. I wanted a Burberry bucket hat, and my grandmother knew just the place. She took me to Galeries Lafayette, and it’s there that I scooped up my souvenir for the trip.
On our previous trips, Galeries Lafayette has always been a stop for additional Paris necessities, and over the years, I have narrowed down the essentials for a Parisian getaway. A chic pair of flats for walking the cobblestone streets is absolutely necessary, as is a cross body bag, to leave you hands free to snap all the photos you want and eat all the crepes your heart desires. Simple gold accessories to dress up any ensemble, and a wide brimmed hat for sipping a little rosé on The Seine as the sun sets (we did this and it was magical).
