Your Best Friend: Boyfriend Jeans

boyfriend jeans

The other day I was writing an article for a magazine about my top “winter” picks (yes, you heard that right. Winter picks). I struggled slightly, not because I couldn’t figure out what to write (me finding out what to write is as difficult as me not having anything to say…), but because I know how much I have been complaining, here, about there being absolutely zero (nada) fall weather. Good news though, I’ve been diligently watching the weather and we’re in for a cold front here in Cali (and by cold front I mean mid 70’s… we have to start somewhere people.).

Anyway, I digress. Back to the article I was writing about “Winter Must Haves” in my oldest pair of pink cherry print Juicy shorts and faded black James Perse tank (catch the irony?). To get myself into “winter mode” I simply closed my eyes, blasted the AC, and thought about what would look stylish if I really felt this cold. And voila! The ideas started flowing. I’ll share them here later in November, but one must have are boyfriend jeans. I truly believe they should be your best friend. Lots of people talk about how “they just don’t look good on me,” and I can relate. It’s all about finding a pair that doesn’t really look like your boyfriend’s jeans. From there, it’s all about proportions. They are a naturally baggy pant, so try to keep the top part a little closer to the body (i.e. no “boyfriend” tees please, think “vintage” or “slightly worn in.”). For those of us who are dreadfully short, I always feel the best in my boyfriends when I’m also wearing pumps… Then again, I have always been known not to follow my own advice. So, if proportionally you feel great in a chunky knit sweater, boyfriend jeans, and heels, then wear it (I actually already did that here)! Confidence first, style rules second (because I believe when you have the first, you create the second.). I can honestly say I often feel the most confident wearing these baggy boys!

Tips for Styling Your Boyfriends:

1. Find a pair that fits about 1-2 sizes bigger than your skinny jeans. I’d say that you should be able to wear them without a belt…

2. Think proportions: Baggy jeans, roomy sweater, try higher heels. If you’re feet are dying try the jeans with stylish sneakers and a vintage v-neck top.

3. Cuff the bottom… I can’t even finds the words to explain what they look like when they aren’t.

4. Want to wear to work? Go more formal and feminine on top. Try a silk top with a classic blazer and classy pumps.
