If you ever visit California, when you drive along the freeways you’ll inevitably see billboard advertisements for marijuana dispensaries everywhere (to clarify, marijuana is legal in California…). So, when I started to hear about the positive affects of CBD, I assumed it was just another word for marijuana. Obviously, I was very misinformed….
Fast forward to present day (or, maybe a few months ago) and I started my own personal research on CBD. What was it, what were its benefits, how could it help me, personally, and would it make me high?? I came across a lot of great answers, but I was nursing Camille, so I opted to hold off on trying anything CBD…..
A few things happened when I stopped nursing Camille, which I attribute to hormones. One, my sleep went out of wack. It was taking me forever to fall asleep, sometimes over an hour, despite being tired. Secondly, I found myself having some mild anxiety (nothing that would require medication) here and there (all mainly surrounding work) which would make me distracted + irritable. Something I didn’t like, at all.
So I revisited the though of CBD. I’d done enough research to know that it helps with both anxiety/stress + sleep so I decided to give it a try. I just didn’t know where to start. I eventually decided to try Equilibria, a company founded by women, for women. I decided on their brand for a few reasons:
1. The hemp in their CBD products is sourced on their 1,100 acre farm in Colorado. It’s all organically grown + are GMO, solvent, heavy-metals, pesticide, and herbicide free. They hand harvest the plants and extract the oil from flowers only…. meaning they never use stalks, stems, seeds, or isolates.
2. It’s a company that really cares about women being the women they want to be
3. When you purchase through them, you have access to a phone consultation with a dosage consultant. This was super important to me since I had no clue where to start… how much to take, what to take, when to take it, etc…. for optimal results.
I’ve been taking CBD for several weeks now (I’d say 6 in total) and after my consultation with the dosage consultant really started to notice a big difference. I take a full droplet of CBD oil in the morning, after breakfast, and I feel as if it sets the tone for a good day. If there are any episodic moments of stress (not that I have any of those…) I take a half droplet of CBD oil. The logic behind this, according to my dosage consultant, is that the CBD oil is absorbed quickly (since it’s under the tongue) and helps to release a bliss molecule to help you manage stress. Then, after dinner (more like after the girls go to bed + I’ve settled down for the evening) I take a CBD gel tablet to help with sleep. At no point do I ever feel impaired whatsoever. Just an overall “chill” feel. The logic behind switching to the gel tablet in the evening is that since it takes longer for the body to absorb it, it will last 4-6 hours, which has seriously made such a huge difference with my sleep. I fall asleep within 15 minutes and sleep very soundly. I also have CBD lotion, but I’ve yet to use it. The consultant said that it’s great for headaches (rub on temple and down the neck), menstrual cramps, rubbing on feet after a long day, and other muscle aches.
I should also note here that CBD is non habit forming + you cannot develop a tolerance to it.
I have so much information that I gained from working with the dosage consultant (she really educated me on how CBD interacts with the body, etc) that I felt super confident in following her suggestions.
I took some of the most asked questions I received over on instagram and answered them here, just in case you’re wondering as well. If you do end up wanting to try CBD, I can’t recommend Equilibria more + code Shannon will get you 15% off your first order….

QUESTION + ANSWER
1. Can you breastfeed while using this?
Everything I have read indicates that there just isn’t enough research to say one way or the other, and recommends checking with your healthcare provider. The FDA though strongly recommends against the use of it while nursing (and pregnant). I am no longer nursing.
2. Is the CBD Equilibria sells considered full spectrum?
Yes, Equilibria CBD is considered full spectrum. For reference, full spectrum CBD is defined as follows:
“Full-spectrum CBD oil contains more than just CBD. It includes many other cannabinoids and terpenes (including trace amounts of THC – tetrahydrocannabinol) that combine to create an “entourage effect” of compounded benefits, activating the CBD for best efficacy in the body.”- Equilibria Website
3. Is there definitely no THC? Paranoid about this since I work in healthcare and they drug test.
No. In full spectrum CBD, like Equilibria sells, there is less than .3% THC. The less than .3% is what is required to make it legal per The Federal Farm Bill.
4. What is the taste like?
I think it tastes really grassy…. sort of how marijuana smells. But it’s not awful. The dosage consultant suggested refrigerating the oil in order to mitigate the taste, or to add high quality peppermint drops to the bottle to dilute the taste. BUT Equilibria just released (today) flavored daily drops to make it easier if the taste bothers you. They now come in mint, yuzu, and honey.
5. Does it make you feel high? I hate the feeling but would love something to reduce anxiety.
Maybe the most frequently asked question and the answer is an firm NO! You could drink the entire bottle of CBD oil and wouldn’t feel high at all. I was told by the dosage consultant that it takes 10% THC to make you feel high… their CDB has 0.3%… just to give some perspective.
6. Does CBD oil help with anxiety + panic attacks?
CBD has been clinically shown to help with the following: controlling anxiety, improving chronic insomnia, depression, pain relief, and much more.
7. Can men take this brand?
Yes! Their brand is completely safe for all genders.
