Wellness Wednesday || Turmeric Sunrise Smoothie

Confession: I absolutely hate cleaning our blender when I make a smoothie or smoothie bowl. It’s just one of those items that I dread cleaning… too many little nooks and crannies…. yet I know that the goodness it produces is well worth it. All that being said, I stumbled across a smoothie from Nektar, The Turmeric Sunrise, and fell in love with the fresh taste…. and was a little too lazy to try to recreate it at home…. so I became a fast regular at our local store. Yet, this past week I decided I’d try to give it a whirl. The first batch was disgusting (TJ + Harper agreed….) so I took out the vanilla protein powder (the original one doesn’t have that ingredient, I just thought that it might give it a good kick….). The next batch was closer…. yet a little too turmeric-y….. and then I realized that I’d forgotten a small, yet obviously key, ingredient: Lime Juice. The great equalizer. Once we added that, the end result produced four happy consumers…. me, the babe in my bellly, TJ, + Harper…..

After sharing my obsession with this turmeric smoothie on instagram I received a lot of questions asking about the benefits of this bright orange powder. And while I’m not expert in the field, the overall consensus from the research I’ve read is this: Turmeric contains curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects (chronic, low level inflammation in the body causes disease….). Most studies have linked inflammation in the body to many of the Western illness we’re familiar with today, such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s…. just to name a few.

And so today, I bring you my, as close as I can get it, version of the Turmeric Sunrise Smoothie….

INGREDIENTS

1 cup frozen mangos
1 cup frozen pineapples
1 tsp coconut butter (I use this kind)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (I use this kind)
1 cup of coconut water
2 tbsp of fresh lime juice

Toss it all in a blender and blend until smooth!
