I’ve always been diligent with my skin care routine…. ever since my mom taught me the importance of it in middle school…. and even during those late nights in college, I was always sure to wash my face. I used the same skin care products for years (and when I say years, I mean a good 15) and was always really happy with them…. when I find a good product, I don’t see the need to switch things up. Yet, over the years my skin has changed, so products have changed as well… and I’ve also made a few more alterations to my skin care routine that have nothing to do with what I put on my face….
Given that the skin is our bodies largest organ, and it’s pretty much our bodies protective layer, I decided to dedicate today’s post to how I keep my skin healthy during the summer months… where the sun is shining, time is spent outdoors, and the skin is prone to damage…..
In all honesty, I used to not care much about protecting my skin from the sun… I loved a good golden tan (still do, just a little more cautious about how I go about achieving it….) and would sun bathe for hours at the beach with my girlfriends (no tanning beds though…). I’d get burned occasionally and not really think twice about it. As I got older, and started hearing more and more about the dangers of skin cancer, I got smarter. Sunscreen is always a must. Always. I recently purchased the Beautycounter Sunscreen and have been extremely happy with it. It’s not cheap, but you can read more of why it’s a safe choice here. I also always wear a wide brimmed hat to protect my face. My favorite options include this wide brimmed straw hat (I’ve had it for two seasons now), this roll up travel visor (I’m obsessed with how cute it is!), and I just recently splurged on this straw fedora hat for our wine tasting this coming weekend.
About three months ago, I made the deodorant switch over to Kopari’s Coconut Deodorant (it’s aluminum free) and I’ve been incredibly happy. Leaves me stinky free throughout the day… including my intense morning workouts….
Like I mentioned above, when it comes to my evening skincare routine, I’m diligent. I’ve been using TULA products for the past 2.5 years… when I find something I like, I don’t see the need to switch things up….. The base of their products are probiotics, and they’re 100% free from phthalates, parabens, propylene glycol, petrolatum, gluten, and mineral oil. They are also cruelty free (you can read more about their ingredients here). I’ve broken down the products that I use in the summertime below… all of which help to promote intense hydration, since my skin tends to get very dry in the warm summer temperatures.
Use code SHANNON for 20% off your order of TULA products……
1. Kefir Replenishing Cleansing Oil: I love this product because it helps to calm and soothe distressed skin, and during the summer months, I often feel as if my skin is in distress (despite my best efforts). It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and smooth.
2. Exfoliating Treatment Mask: Hands down my favorite exfoliating mask. I use it 2-3 times a week and it literally leaves my skin glowing, smooth, and supple. I highly, highly recommend.
3. Resurfacing Gel Toner: After I wash my face a night, I put some of this on a cotton ball and swipe it over my face. It makes a huge difference in the appearance and hydration of my skin. I ran out for a couple of weeks and saw a visible difference when I began using the product again… in the brightness and glow of my skin.
4. Aqua Infusion Power Liquid Serum: After I use the toner, I apply a layer of this ultra hydrating serum. It’s TULA’s newest product and it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve noticed my skin looking more radiant, plump (no wrinkles), and hydrated since I started using it about three weeks ago. On days when I combine it with the exfoliating mask, my skin is literally glowing in the morning. I love it!
5. Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream: I pair this with the above serum for an extreme hydration punch. It took me a little while to get used to, since it’s consistency is different than this moisturizer… but I’ve been loving it, and have been using it nightly now for about three months. It leaves my skin looking dewey and radiant.
6. Revitalizing Eye Cream: I look for moisturizing and brightening in my eye creams, and this one does both. The skin around my eyes is never dry, and I use it morning + night. TJ even sneaks a few swipes here and there….
For my body, I use OSEA Malibu’s body polish to exfoliate my skin…. leaves it soft + glowing……
And there you have it…. my daily summer skincare routine that I live by… I figure if I want to be comfortable in my skin, I need to take care of it!
