Over the years I’ve become quite adept at doing my own manicures. I don’t know why, but there is just something about sitting in a nail salon that has the opposite “self care” affect for me. It’s as if the moment I sit down I start watching the clock and thinking about all the things I could be doing instead of getting a manicure. For me, there is just something about sitting in the comforts of my own home, often after the girls have gone to bed, and painting my nails….
Over the past year or so, I’ve also had a little lady who has become obsessed with painting her nails. And that’s when I started to become more aware of the ingredients in my nail polishes. After doing some research I discovered that until recently, the majority of polishes contained toxic ingredients known to cause all kinds of health issues. Luckily, many brands have stepped up to the plate by creating “7-free” nail formulas. These polishes are free of the top seven harmful ingredients, but they still perform like a dream. So in my quest for some new polishes for this fall season, I started my search at Nordstrom. They have 3 of my favorite non-toxic nail polish lines… all with great color options and staying power (which this momma always appreciates!). Sharing some of my favorite non-toxic brands below:
Cirque Colors was born from the desire to transcend the limited color palettes of conventional nail polish brands. The name Cirque, meaning ring or circle, came from the idea of the color wheel. They hand-mix their polishes with unique pigments and raw materials, creating one-of-a-kind formulas. All of their products are non-toxic (10 free), cruelty free, and vegan. I am a huge fan of their hand cream (was amazing up in Park City in preventing my hands from drying out…) and I use the small manicure brush to touch up all my manicures. I feel as if that’s the easiest way to get a salon type at home manicure… by touching up the cuticle line and making the polish even.
Base Coat has 7 Nordstrom shop-in-shops so their selection is amazing. Their nail polishes are custom-formulated and poured and mixed by hand, to ensure they have the purest pigments possible. Base Coat offers over 100 non-toxic shades, free of 8 of the most harmful ingredients.
Base Coat makes an excellent matte top coat, which is my go-to when I do any solid polish color.
Aside from their polishes, I love their cuticle roller. I roll it on every night before bed, and it really nourishes my cuticle area without leaving a greasy residue! Such an easy way to further get that salon manicure look.
Deborah Lippman’s line of long-wearing nail color is known for bold hues, ingredients to support nail health, and flawless shine. Her nail formulas are 10 free, vegan, and never tested on animals.
Her line has an excellent quick dry top coat that I always use on little miss (since her patience is about zero when waiting for her nails to dry)….
I always lean to more neutral nail shades, so for fall that means browns, blacks, and golds…. and at the end of the post, I’ve shared a few photos of these polishes on my nails! Harper chose the first color and I actually really love it… she told me I “needed glitters” on my nail… and couldn’t we all use a little “glitters” in 2020??
