Something TJ + I have always loved to do is head outdoors for our weekend workouts. Whether it’s a trail run, long bike ride, or a hike at one of our favorite local spots… there’s just something about fresh air + a workout that sets the tone for a great weekend….
And, like anything, an outdoor workout requires the right gear. We’ve purchased so many of our “kiddo gear” from Backcountry. They carry so many of our favorite lines for hiking, running, and biking gear that it was only natural we looked there when we were in the market for a new double running stroller.
We ended up deciding on the Thule Chariot Double Glide Stroller… and let me tell you, we’ve been obsessed with it ever since we got it. It literally glides, has excellent storage capacity (and can zip closed if you want to protect what is inside… it fit my large camera, diapers, wipes, snacks, etc with room to spare),, is easy to collapse (as easy as something that large can be….), and is overall very well made. It absorbs natural bumps when running for a smooth ride for our passengers (aka, the girls). It has a good amount of space for each kiddo, and the seats can adjust according to how the child prefers sitting (it reclines pretty far). I also love that there is a hand brake which is helpful when you’re running downhill. We purchased the car seat adapter (confirmed with our doc that it was okay for Camille…) so that we could start using it sooner rather than later… and have taken it on several runs, long walks, and I most recently took it on a long trail walk with the girls last Wednesday. We honestly can’t recommend it more!
Last Wednesday we headed down to Back Bay (one of our go-to spots) and took in some summer sunshine + fresh air. I tossed on my favorite Alo crop top (I now own it in 3 colors….), ⅞ length leggings (another item I own in several colors), and these Nike running shoes (very comfortable) and headed out. I purchased this shorts/tee set for Harper (and the matching onesie for Camille) and it kept her nice and cool throughout the morning.
I know that a lot of people visit Orange County on vacation and enjoy getting outdoors for their workouts, so I included 6 of our favorite outdoor trails/paths below….
Back Bay Newport Beach: I trained for my first half marathon on this path/trail… took Harper on her very first family walk on this trail… and we’ve headed here countless times for a leisurely walk, or run, and beautiful scenery. I opted to bring the girls here last Wednesday (in these photos) for some Vitamin D + salty air.
Crystal Cove: If you’re looking for a walk right on the water, then this spot is for you! It boasts sweeping views of the Orange County coastline… has a little bit of wildlife… and you can even take the walk right onto the sand if you please.
Newport Beach Boardwalk: This is a great, long, stretch of beach… right near the sand. Great for long runs…
Laguna Canyon Wilderness Park: This is our absolute favorite place for a long hike. TJ + I have been coming here for years. We use this carrier to bring Harper along… and will be purchasing this one when Camille has enough neck strength… so we can resume our family hikes again. What I love about this area is that there are several different paths you can follow (we always opt for the Dommer trail) of varying lengths. When TJ + I are solo hiking (which is rare these days) we opt for the 8 mile, roundtrip, hike. It’s challenging in certain areas, easy in others, and the view at the end is of the entire Laguna Beach coastline (just a note, the beginning of this hike is basically 1.5 miles uphill… the most challenging part by far). When we have the girls (well, we’ve only taken Harper at this point), we do about 5 miles.
Peter’s Canyon: This is a trail that’s more inland (Tustin/Irvine area) and a great option for us after work… because the view from the top is spectacular…. Especially at sunset!
Top Of The World: Another hike in Laguna Beach, which has beautiful views as well.
Backcountry carriers so many of my favorite lines for myself (Free People, L Space, Solid + Stripe, Alo, Beyond Yoga, Nike, etc…) and the entire family, that it’s a natural one stop shop for all our outdoor needs. If you’re in the market, I can’t recommend it more.
