Weekend Recap || Your Own Headlines

My girlfriend posted the below story on her instagram this past weekend, and it was as if she was posting it for me…. you know when you see something and it seems to speak right to you?? Well, this was it for me, and so as we head into a new week ahead I wanted to share it here in case anyone else might benefit from the beautiful words:

“Sometimes I just want it to stop. Talk of COVID, brutality. I lose my way. I become convinced that this “new normal” is real life. Then I met an 87 year old who talks of living through polio, diphtheria, Vietnam protests and yet is still enchanted with life.

He seemed surprised when I said that 2020 must be especially challenging for him. “No,” he said slowly, looking me straight in the eyes. “I learned a long time ago to not see the world through the printed headlines, I see the world through the people that surround me. I see the world with the realization that we love big. Therefor, I just choose to write my own headlines:

‘Husband love wife today,’ ‘Family drops everything to come to Grandma’s bedside.’

He patted my hand. ‘Old man makes new friend.’

His words collide with my worries, freeing them from the tether I had been holding tight. They float away. I am left with a renewed spirit and a new way to write my own headlines.” – Story by Andy Stanley

And while I know we can’t turn a blind eye to everything happening in the world right now, it is possible to hold space for both your own headlines and those of the world. I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!

(Headed down to a one of our favorite walking trails for some salty air… my pullover (more Varley options), sneakers, Camille’s dress)

(Started the weekend with a long run and a quick yoga flow by the pool… I’ve been adding in more yoga lately and it’s felt so good… shorts, tank (more Girlfriend Collective))

(Oddly overcast the past several days so a comfy cardi + shorts was the perfect combo for Friday… tee)

(We thought about heading out for Friday night but opted for the backyard and some bubbly in comfies instead…)

(Spent Saturday doing random things around the house… after a quick Peloton hike on the treadmill… leggings, crop, pullover, sandals)

(Then an early evening dip in the jacuzzi…. suit)

(Sunday morning brunch….)

(Which moved into a slow Sunday morning with a movie outside…)

(Picked up a new book to start…. hoping it’s a good one!)

(A comfy jumpsuit to close out the weekend…)
_________

Bloomingdale’s is having 20% off and a few items I’m looking at for fall include this plaid shirt jacket and this quilted utility jacket. A few items I own that are on sale include these pearl slides (I recommend going down a 1/2 size), and these non-toxic pans that we’ve had for a year and love.

On Cloud has some of my favorite cross training sneakers, and my sister + mom just got this slip on pair (my sister is a teacher, and pregnant, so she wanted something she could comfortably stand in all day long)… now I sort of want a pair too… love the color.

If you like the Jenni Kayne shearling mules, I found this pair for a fraction of the price…. they look identical.

We have a trip to Hawaii planned for next week (pending no one picks anything up from school, crossing our fingers) and I have this pink two piece set, tan lightweight lounge set, and this pink stripe wrap shirt… we’re staying at a house, and plan to cook most meals, so I don’t really need to pack that much, which is nice…

And, Hunza G just released some of the cutest two pieces in the prettiest colors… loving this blush-ish pink one and this two toned suit.

This tie dye lounge set that I wore throughout the summer is around 65% off… so soft and comfortable…

And if you have fall on your mind, my go-to faux leather joggers (sustainably made) were just restocked. This will be my third season with them and I can’t wait to wear them when the temps cool…
