It’s hard to believe that 5 years ago TJ + I became parents to little miss Harper. I remember the night before I went into labor, I was feeling all the feels, very emotional because I was supposed to be induced the following evening. I made a vegetable soup, we watched a lighthearted movie, and then went to bed. Around 1:15 in the morning I woke up to contractions, monitored them for about 15 minutes, and then woke TJ up to let him know it was time to go….

Not wanting to be told *when* she’d make her appearance in the world, she took it into her own hands. She arrived at 1:16pm, and our lives were forever changed. She brings so much light, love, and joy to our lives and I am so grateful everyday that God chose us to be her parents. She’s loving, so compassionate, silly, has a zest for life, can be incredibly stubborn, throw one heck of a meltdown… and is just the right amount of sugar and spice.

We spent this past weekend celebrating her (my parents/sister/BIL came over Saturday for a tiny family celebration, they’ve been our “pod” over the past several months) and at the end of the night she told me it was “the best day ever.”

Her birthday aligned itself with the awful attack on the Capitol building and it was a reminder to me that she is watching, and learning, from everything TJ + I do. We are her models. We show her how to love, how to accept, how to have empathy, how to embrace differences and approach them with curiosity, how to handle adversity, and how to accept/approach life when it doesn’t’ go the way we planned/wanted. I want so much for her during her life, and my role as her mother is the most important job I have been given.

So here’s to another year around the sun for this little ball of joy!
