Weekend Recap || Pause, Rewind, Or Fast Forward

I saw a meme the other day that said:

“April 1st through 15th went by in two days…”

And I couldn’t have agreed more. Most of this month I’ve not known what day it was, or which day of the week it was… and now, all of a sudden, we’re more than halfway through the month….

On Friday night, as we were sitting having a glass of champagne, I asked TJ which button he would prefer to have on his life: a pause, rewind, or fast forward (you can’t re-do anything, just re-live). We both ruled out fast forward, and ultimately both chose a rewind button. When I posed the question on instagram, 52% said a pause button and 42% said a rewind button. I feel as if life moves by so quickly, and I never realize it in the moment… it’s when I sit down and reflect that I realize how quickly life has moved…

Maybe that reflection comes from the fact that Camille will be three on Friday… and a part of me just can’t believe that. When we started 2020 she wasn’t walking, and I was carrying her on my hip… and now that we are moving onto the other side of the pandemic it feels as if that time disappeared (and went slowly at the same time…). So I think I’m at a point where I would love to rewind, go back to certain moments in life and re-live them for the happiness, joy, and love that was present….

And at the same time, it’s a daily effort to remain as present as possible during those special moments, because, unfortunately, we don’t have the opportunity to hit rewind, or even pause, on life. We get that moment, and then it’s gone.

Given that, I spent the entire weekend off of social media (the one presence in my life that zaps my ability to be present). I was present during our daytime date and enjoyed the view, the conversation, the crisp glass of rosé, and being free of parental responsibilities for several hours… and then I hid Easter eggs with the girls and enjoyed time with the family on Easter Sunday. And I know that someday, when the girls are older, I’ll want to rewind to the Easters spent searching for Easter eggs and waking up at the crack of dawn….

So all my rambling aside, I hope everyone had a good weekend, and that as we head into another day of the week, you’re able to be as present as possible.
