Weekend Recap || Like An Ocean

I stumbled across this quote a while ago, and I recently saw it again early last week….

“Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between awful + amazing, it’s ordinary, and mundane, and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax + exhale through the ordinary. That’s just living. Heartbreaking, soul healing, amazing, awful ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.” L.R. Knost

… and I couldn’t help but feel as if it perfectly fits life right now.

I had a client who frequently had suicidal ideation and when we would sit down and talk about what was going on, many of the challenges she was facing were “temporary,” but in the moment the negative impact was magnified. We really worked on seeing life as an ocean… the tides bringing in the good times, choppy waves being like storms, and calm waters being the everyday, in between, kind of life. That there was a difference in all three states, but that all three were temporary and part of living a full life. I worked with her 5.5 years (on again/off again due to the nature of the program I worked in…) and right before we officially ended our work together she was able to reference this life analogy and actively apply it to her life.

And it’s this very analogy that I have reminded myself of, frequently, over the past 5 months or so. Without the lows in life we can’t fully appreciate the highs, and without both the lows + highs, we can’t learn to relish in the mundane everyday “calmness” of life. All three work together to create the memories, lessons, and stories of our life…

Here is to a week of moving through the highs + lows that come our way… and appreciating everything in between. Have a great week friends!

________

TJ + I used to love road cycling before we had kiddos and haven’t ridden our bikes in years… we just bought this little buggy to hook onto our bikes and get wait to get out there again….

Free People has some super cute new pieces… like this ribbed romper, lounge set, and this oversized sweatshirt.

If you’re looking for a super cute dress, love this ruffle trapeze dress.

Z Supply, again, has some of the cutest new arrivals… particularly liking this petal pink sweatshirt.

A few favorites from last winter + spring that I saw restocked include my go-to high waisted black jeans, free people tan sweater, and this oversized grey free people sweater….

I bought this cute little grey dress + this leopard print dress for Harper at the sale and they’re both so soft and comfortable… she loves wearing them.

Also bought Harper these masks… super soft and fit her nicely.

This cute leopard print sweatshirt matches the shorts I shared above!
