Packing. It’s never been my strength. Lately though, I’ve become much more aware, and have tried to really be more thoughtful as to what I am bringing. So, when I was given the opportunity to head up to Napa to meet TJ for a quick 24 hours, I knew this would be the perfect time to test myself. I had plenty of room leftover in the carry on roller bag, so I figured it was a success (I mean, I know I was only gone 24 hours….).
That being said, I figured I’d share what I packed, how I made it work for day + night, and give a few more outfit suggestions in case you’re planning a weekend away in wine country.
Dress: I think for any Napa trip, a dress is a beautiful option and can easily be dressed up, or down, for a daytime of wine tasting + then out to dinner. That being said, for my quick trip, I wanted a leopard print dress + ultimately decided on this one. It was loose + flowy… and I knew it was statement making without being over the top… which made it perfect for evening and night. If you have only a weekend away in Napa (that’s probably easiest for those that live in California) a dress is a “must pack” option (I’m mainly referring to the Spring + Summer months….). A few other beautiful dresses, that I own and love, that would work very well include this floral maxi dress + this oatmeal sweater dress (more of a spring option).
Light Layer: I opted to bring a black leather jacket, since I knew it would be perfect for day + night, as well as traveling. I feel as if outerwear tends to take up a large amount of space in a suitcase, so being able to wear the jacket on the plane was key. A black leather jacket also easily transitions to the evening. I also brought along this long sweater coat (identical option or 20% off the JK option w/code Natalie20) which worked for traveling home…. but could easily work as part of a second day outfit (think jeans, fitted tank, sweater coat, sneakers, + a straw hat).
Shoes: I brought two pairs of shoes… one pair of sneakers (golden goose, but these court sneakers are super cute too) that I wore on the plane + for daytime tasting with the dress… and a pair of studded booties (similar the pair I took are old + no longer available) that I changed into for the evening dinner. I think those two options are great for a weekend in Napa. You can wear both sneakers + booties with a dress or jeans which seamlessly gives you two evening + daytime outfits.
Bottoms: I wore a pair of leggings to travel to + from Napa… but would recommend bringing one pair of denim if you’re staying another 24 hours. I would go with black denim, or dark denim, since it’s the easiest to dress up + down.
Tops: I brought two shirts… this oatmeal tee + graphic tee for traveling. Yet both would easily work if I was staying an extra day. The black jeans, with the oatmeal tee, + sneakers is a classic daytime look (maybe toss on a cute fedora)… and dress it up with the leather jacket, booties, and a bunch of gold accessories for the evening. If you really want to bring a separate top then what you traveled in, then I recommend this bodysuit in black. It’s casual enough with sneakers for daytime (it’s a thong so can be worn with leggings too) and dressy enough for the evening with cute booties.
Accessories: I brought one classic black bag that worked for day + night… and then brought all my go-to gold accessories. I tossed on a few more for the evening dinner to dress things up a bit. A straw hat in spring + summer is also an excellent daytime option.
