Travel || A Fall Road Trip To Park City

As I mentioned last week, we decided to take a very spontaneous trip to Park City. We booked a trip on Friday evening, loaded up the car Saturday night, and headed out early Sunday morning on our road trip adventure. It was the first time we had done that as a family of 4, and while I was apprehensive, I was also eager for this journey….

We decided that a rental was the best way to go. When we look to book rental properties we typically go through VRBO (once we put in our actual dates the accurate rate is shown). We stumbled upon this property, and it had everything we were looking for. A wonderful outdoor seating area (fire pit included), bbq, a great kitchen for cooking (we planned on cooking all our meals, and did), and a private hot tub. It was located in the Empire Pass area, which is one of our favorite Park City areas. Since we were basically booking two days before we left, we ended up getting a great deal. We booked this property for our regular November trip, and it’s equally as nice with a hot tub as well (this property + this property were also on our radar). Park City has a Whole Foods, as well as several other grocery stores, so we were able to get our normal groceries for all of our meals.

As far as the road-trip portion goes, it went about as well as you can expect with two kiddos under 5. There were great moments, testy moments, and then everything in between. Overall we’d give the road trip experience a 7/10. We stopped every 2 hours or so to stretch the legs and let the girls expend some energy. I brought along these disinfecting wipes, but we really only had one bathroom stop (luckily) and it was at a Starbucks. Camille’s attention span was my biggest concern…. and to entertain her we brought along small board books that she could flip through, blocks she could manipulate with her hands, this little Leap Frog tablet (it was Harper’s), *lots* of snacks, played music we know she loves, and gave her cotton balls she cold put in and out of a snack cup. She took a couple short naps throughout the drive as well… and in between being pleasant she was fussy. All to be expected though, and given the duration of the drive she really did a great job.

For activities, we knew this was going to be an outdoor adventure trip. While TJ worked Tuesday- Thursday, I took the girls on hikes and spent time outdoors. A simple google search yielded kiddo friendly hikes (i.e. relatively flat + short). We went to McPolin Farmstead to see the scarecrows for two days, and they also have a wonderful walking trail that has beautiful fall foliage lining the sides. Another day we went on a hike in the Guardsman Pass area- Blood’s Lake to be specific. We didn’t get through the entire hike (Harper got tired), but we did a good portion of it and it was family friendly.

Overall it was a really nice escape. We didn’t do much, but just being in a place with crisp + cool fall air felt amazing. And now that we know the lay of the land as far as a road trip goes with the girls, we will be fully prepared for our trip in November.

I hope you all have a great week ahead!

I wanted to quickly share that Madwell is having 20% off (30% off $200 or more)… my go-to oversized black denim jacket is included, and I purchased these sneakers, oversized ivory flannel, button up ivory sweater, and grey henley sweater… also think this leopard slip dress is beautiful and reminds me of the one I own.
