Travel || 24 Hours in Malibu: What To Pack, What To Do, Where To Stay, Where To Eat

Last week, for my birthday, TJ and I snuck away to Malibu for 24 hours. It was a week filled with a rainy forecast, so we wedged the getaway between two rainstorms so that we could enjoy the beautiful coastline and all that it has to offer. It’s a mere 45 minute drive up the coast for us, but felt like we were miles away. You could easily fill up several days with places to check out, and things to do in the summer months, but for a quick winter getaway, 24 hours was perfect.

I thought I’d quickly share a little travel guide for the area, in case you have Malibu on a list of places to visit one day….

WHERE TO STAY

We had been wanting to stay at the Surfrider Malibu for years, and since it isn’t really kiddo friendly, this was our best opportunity. It’s a small, 20 room, boutique hotel… beautifully appointed. It has a gorgeous rooftop deck, only open to the guests (and whoever they might invite), so at no point does it feel overly crowded. I can’t recommend the spot more.

WHAT TO DO

We were looking for primarily outside activities, so hiking Point Dumas was a perfect daytime hike. It’s an easy hike, about 2 miles there and back, but the views are absolutely gorgeous. If you wanted to make it longer, you could just repeat the loop (we did).

If it’s warm enough outside, going to one of the beautiful beaches is always a great option.

And if you’re looking to do a little bit of shopping I highly recommend Malibu Country Mart.

WHERE TO EAT

Since we wanted to take advantage of all the hotel had to offer, we ate the majority of our meals there, since their menu was seasonal, and delicious. They also have amazing craft cocktails…

Other favorite spots:

Malibu Farm (right on the pier, always a favorite)
Nobu (delicious sushi overlooking the ocean)
Broadstreet Oyster Co
Sunlife Organics
The Malibu Cafe (at Calamigos Ranch)

WHAT TO WEAR

My goal was to stay warm (temps were in the low 50’s) and comfortable, while looking pulled together. For that, see my selects below:

(Sweater (similar option here, here) | Sweater Coat (30% off with code HOL25) | Mules (similar to what I brought) | Shawl Scarf | Jeans | Cross Trainers | Ribbed Shirt | Running Jacket | Olive Green Leggings | Sneakers | Joggers (also these white ones) | Ribbed Top)
