The Curve Hem Jeans || Styled 16 Ways With Different Shoes

In hindsight, after putting this post together, I realized a more appropriate title might have been “How I’m Wearing Barrel Hem Jeans With Different Shoe Styles.” Either way, title aside, this entire post is clearly about curve, or barrel, style denim.

When the style first broke onto the scene I was on the fence. I liked the laid back look of them, but figured they’d never work on my 5’1 frame. Then Everlane came out with their version, The Curve Hem, and I decided to give them a try. They instantly became a favorite. Why? Well, they have a great high rise fit (no gap in the back), a loose fitting (but not baggy) fit throughout the bottom, and the legs curve out in just the right way that they hang nicely from the waist (I obviously had to cut mine….). Since my first pair, I’ve since added the black, ivory, and another denim wash to my wardrobe, and wear them across seasons (‘m between sizes and highly recommend going with the size up).

There is a lot of chatter about the right shoes to wear with them…. some will always say no to anything but a slim boot and/or a loafer/flat. Yet, I tend to disagree. The latter style shoe doesn’t always work practically for everyone, so sometimes it’s just about the “right” sneaker versus no sneaker. My take (if it matters) is that a slimmer trainer style with a low profile, like the adidas sambas, are a great option (as opposed to a chunky New Balance sneaker with a higher profile on the ankle). Ultimately, if you feel good, then I say ditch the rules.
