TJ arrived home yesterday afternoon, after being away for a few nights on a work trip, and we headed down for tacos on the beach for dinner. The weather was beautiful… the beach was surprisingly crowded… and the sun stayed out the entire time we were there. It finally, actually, felt like summer… the only thing missing was a glass of rosé. Each summer, my quintessential uniform always includes cut-offs. At the start of the season, I go on the look for the perfect pair to add to my collection (since once I find a pair I like, I continue to wear them until they’re falling apart….)… and I wear them over, and over, and over again all summer long.
I always look for a longer inseam (no 1.5″ or 2″ inseams for this momma…. no need for my booty to be hanging out….), some distressing (that varies from pair to pair), and a fit that leaves me feeling confident and comfortable. Last year AGolde shorts were the superstar… and three of the pairs below are from the line. They’re an investment, but they’re good. All that being said, today I decided to round up the six pairs of denim shorts that will be on regular rotation this coming summer (and let’s face it, in So. Cal, fall as well) season….
The winners from last year, and they’re still one of my favs. They have a 2.75″ inseam, and a high rise fit… meaning they cover the behind very well, and offer a slight high rise feel. I love that they’re slightly oversized in their fit, which makes them so comfortable for everyday wear…. I never have to pull them down, and they have lasted through several Hawaii trips, Palm Springs trips, Cabo trips… various beach and park days…. need I say more??

I stumbled across the Abercrombie Girlfriend High- Rise Short a few weeks ago. They have the high-rise, longer inseam I typically go for…. and you can’t beat the excellent price point. The distressing is spot on (then again, I love distressing), but they also offer so many different color options (this is the medium wash). My one con for this pair is that they are a little more fitted around the legs. It’s likely not an issue for most people, but after wearing the AGoldes last year, it’s something I have to get used to. I ordered up a size (25) and I was comfortable in them.

I went on the hunt for a good light wash pair this summer and found two (also below). This pair has a slightly shorter inseam than I typically go for (2.25″) but they still fully cover my behind area. Again, a little more fitted than my favorites from last year, but still a great option. The wash on this pair is perfect for summer… and I am kinda obsessed with the distressing. I’ve worn them to the zoo with little miss, a day at the park, and for a lunch date with TJ (and a few other times, I just can’t remember right now…).

The second pair of the two light wash pairs I own. LOVE this pair for the longer inseam (3.5″)… which can be shortened by a small roll of the hem. The distressing is very mild, so perfect for those who aren’t as distressed-crazy as myself. They’re high waisted and fit like a glove. They do run very small, and I would likely have sized up one more (to a 26, I usually wear a 24) had I not gotten too excited and popped the tag off. Despite that, they’re still one of my favs, and I know you’d love them too.

Right after I had Harper, I found a pair of One Teaspoon White shorts. Loved them. Yet, I was looking for a high waisted pair for this season… and, you guessed it, my favorite brand made the perfect cut-off. They’re nice and crisp for a summer day… and look super cute over a bathing suit too. They fit the same as the light wash pair (featured with the stripe tee), and I couldn’t be happier with them. Also, they’re not see through… so that’s always a bonus.
If you love high waisted, then this super high waisted pair is for you (also featured here). I’m obsessed…. they fit snuggly, and again, I sized up 2 to get the right fit. They provide excellent coverage, everywhere. I’ve worn them with a bathing suit and kimono (for the beach/pool… not to lunch…), and a cozy pullover…. I promise you, if you like the Agolde Parker short, you’ll love these too.
