Well, I’d be lying if I said that daylight savings hasn’t thrown us for a loop… it’s pitch dark when we wake the girls up (one even commented this morning “why are you waking me up so early, it’s dark outside) and then it’s still light when we’re starting to unwind and kick off the bedtime routine. Annnnd, just when we think they’re asleep, pitter patter down the hall…. we’ll fall back into the rhythm at some point, haha….
Anyway, DST aside, sharing my go-to wardrobe staples for the spring season today. These are items included in my capsule, but also pieces that haven’t been included, but will be in the future… eyelet tops, basic tees + tanks, lounge shorts… everything I’ll be grabbing for as the temps settle into spring (whatever that might be for us this year!).
And with that, I hope everyone has a great day ahead!
_____
EYELET TOP
I love a beautiful eyelet top for the spring (and then summer) season. It adds texture and dimension to any outfit, and it can easily be dressed up or down depending on how you wear it. I wore the black eyelet top above out for casual cocktails by the beach. Both of these run true to size.
(Black Eyelet Top, White Eyelet Top)
OVERSIZED WHITE BUTTON DOWN
One of the best, and most versatile, wardrobe staples AYR (all year round) really is an oversized white button down… you can wear it with shorts on a warmer day (and then pick between the short or long sleeves), with denim (fully tucked, front tucked, or just free flowing), and leggings. It can act as a lightweight layer, as a bathing suit cover, the options are sort of limitless. I sized down in the short sleeved one (well, took my smaller size) and took my regular size in the long sleeved one. Both are thicker, but not heavy, so they aren’t see through.
(Long Sleeve, Short Sleeve 20% off through 3/14)
OVERSIZED DENIM JACKET, CREAM DENIM, BASIC BLACK AND WHITE TEE
So all of these pieces are from March’s capsule wardrobe, and will continue to make their way into subsequent capsules. I love how easily an oversized denim jacket elevates, and dresses down, an outfit… and is such an easy throw on and go when you’re wanting a lightweight layer and to keep a casual look.
The cream denim (20% off until 3/14) was something I had been searching for, and this pair takes the cake. They have a bit of stretch to them (which means they’re very comfortable), and they can easily be dressed up or down, and worn with so many different tops, shoes, sweaters, etc… I love them paired with an oversized white button down and sandals- so effortless.
And a basic black tee (and white) is sort of a AYR (all year round) staple- just lengthen or shorten the sleeves. This one has a cropped fit to it, but if you want one that’s longer this vintage tee is another go-to (I own in in 3 colors and can’t recommend it more).
TRENCH COAT, OVERSIZED CARDIGAN, STRAIGHT LEG JEANS
I’ve styled this trench coat multiple ways (here), but I think a trench is such a great lightweight layer when you want to feel chic and pulled together. A few other options I’ve found include this under $100 trench (someone sent this to me and said it was great) and this trench as well.
And of course I’m recommend an oversized cardigan… as I do season after season. It’s just such a versatile piece that can act as a top layer, or as a layer under a coat (as seen above). This one is 15% off with code SHANNONP15, but I also love this under $150 option. My sister owns it and we compared the two, with the main difference being in the thickness of the cashmere. Other than that the fit and style are the same.
The Riley Cropped straight leg jeans were a new purchase this season and I love their versatility- since they pair nicely with just about any shoe, it makes them great for dressing up or down.
CUT-OFFS + STRIPED TANK
I’ve had these cut-offs since 2021 and I can’t recommend them more. They have a longer inseam, are high waisted, and I just love how comfortable they are… and easy throw on a go option during the spring and summer seasons. Pair them with a sweatshirt or cardigan while temps are cool, and wear them with a favorite tank and tee when temps heat up. I do recommend taking your regular size in these (although, I bought mine 2 years ago, so sizing might have changed).
I purchased this striped tank last spring and it quickly became a spring and summer staple. I love the loose fit, how perfectly it pairs with jeans or shorts, and how classic the stripe print is. I found this one to run tts.
LOUNGE SHORTS + STRIPED SWEATER
I always think a great pair of lounge shorts are good for those days when joggers/sweats are too warm, but you still want to be comfortable. I include a pair each season, and this year I discovered this pair, with a longer inseam and the softest material. This true ivory color will be released on 3/15.
I had my eye on this black and white striped sweater since last spring, and I slept on it (wasn’t sure if it was worth it), and then it sold out. When it was restocked this season, I invested in it for spring and summer. It’s the softest cotton material, and in between a crop and full length (on me). It’s 15% off with code SHANNONP15, but I also found this identical option from La Ligne (the cotton isn’t as soft, which is the only difference) and this henley option too.
RIBBED TANK
Love this ribbed tank. It was a purchase from last season, and I loved it so much I ended up getting it in black and wore it all throughout spring and summer. The ribbed detailing elevates it a bit from a basic tee and it’s so versatile, can be dressed up or down. I sized up because I didn’t want it to be too snug.
LINEN SHORTS
And lastly, these go-to elastic waistband linen shorts were a summer 2019 purchase… but I wore them non-stop the past three seasons, and no doubt will continue to as temps warm up. They are easy to throw on over a swimsuit… or layer with a sweater… or just a long sleeve tee and a denim jacket. I bought my regular size, but if you’re between sizes, sizing up might be best as some people noted the waist band was fitted on them…. they also remade them this season and the new version has POCKETS (yesss!). I own these in black and vineyard).
TAN LEGGINGS + OATMEAL SWEATSHIRT
I always recommend leggings in the cooler months, and like to lighten things up a bit with a tan pair in the spring season. I’ve had these since fall of 2020 (another option), and they’re still a pair I reach for time and time again. I also think these are a great option.
And this oatmeal colored sweatshirt is perfect to pair with just about any bottom- it’s also a great fit, not too oversized or fitted. SHANNONP15 for 15% off or I found this one and this one as great options too!
OVERSIZED STRIPED BUTTON DOWN
Similar to the oversized white button down, the oversized striped button down adds a bit of color to a neutral wardrobe and goes with so many different bottoms. I love this one, and this one and this one are great alternatives as well.
