Hard to believe it’s been a year since the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’ve been shopping this sale ever since I was a little girl, with my mom, and this year was the first time I brought along Camille + Harper to pick up my items. I actually shopped the sale two weeks ago, just picked my items up Wednesday (no looking around), and tried them all on at home. It was nice to be able to try the pieces on in the comforts of my own home and see if they mixed and matched nicely with pieces I already own.
My main focus this season was on transitional items. Since Southern California doesn’t experience cooler temps until the end of October (3.5 months away), my focus for the sale the past few years has been to find transitional items that can work for summer (since, technically summer just started) and seamlessly blend into my fall-ish wardrobe. That being said, the heavy fall/winter pieces I am sharing are items I purchased last season and discovered at the sale this year… all items are pieces I highly recommend, and love…..
I’ll have menswear favorites on the blog next Thursday… since TJ has to take a look at the sale and see what he likes…

TOPS + SWEATERS
FREE PEOPLE SOUTH SIDE THERMAL TOP: (featured above) Shared this top in yesterday’s post, but it’s really an excellent lightweight thermal to have on hand for summer + fall layering.
FREE PEOPLE CITRINE TOP: This top has a great oversized fit and I am particularly fond of the henley/v-neck line. I ordered it in the off white color…. and plan on wearing it on the plane tomorrow with some bike shorts + slides.
MADEWELL RYDER CARDIGAN: (featured above) I’ve had this cardigan for two seasons now… I own it in the rose + grey colors. It’s incredibly soft and an excellent length. Some people have complained about piling issues, yet I haven’t really experienced that. I don’t wash it unless it’s absolutely necessary… which might be why…
**MADEWELL FAUX WRAP PULLOVER: (featured above) Another sweater that I’ve owned for two seasons, and have in two colors (the burnt olive color + the grey color which isn’t available)… it fits incredibly well and is super chic…. I wear it with cut-offs, joggers, and jeans. If you want a slouchy fit, I recommend sizing up one to two sizes.
**MADEWELL CLASSIC EX-BOYFRIEND STRIPE SHIRT: (see above) This is a new purchase this season… and such a classic piece that will never go out of style… great for a 9-5 setting, and easily dresses down with cut-offs, jeans, and leggings.
BOTTOMS
SPANX ACTIVE BIKE SHORT: I was SO excited to see these on sale… since my biker short obsession has been real this summer season. As I was pulling them on I thought they were going to be waaaay too small, but they literally fit like a dream. Hug in all the right places and they don’t make my thighs look like they’re in a sausage casing. I did size up one since the fit is snug. If you’re wanting to try to the biker short trend, and want to go with a neutral color, then I highly recommend these.
**SPANX FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS: I bought these in October last year… and I think I wore them almost daily (when the weather cooled down). Like the biker shorts, they fit like glove… but size up!
FREE PEOPLE HIGH RISE BUSTED KNEE SKINNY JEAN: (featured above, with the Madewell faux wrap sweater in grey) Bought my first pair of these jeans two years ago, and I’ve since purchased them in a lighter wash as well. So, it was only natural when I saw them in a faded black color that I’d add them to my collection. They’re super comfortable + the rise is perfect for holding everything in place. I cut the hem to give it a raw look. I recommend sizing up one to two sizes… I do two sizes with these jeans (size 26) since they run small.
ZELLA LIVE IN JOGGER PANT: Bought these this sale season and they are super comfortable… love that they can be worn for lounging or as a more out + about look. Wear them with slides + a tank in the summer… sneakers + a long sleeve thermal in the fall.
**FREE PEOPLE RETRO LOVE MIDI SKIRT: Another recent purchase… I love the polka dot print… side button details… side slit… and that it’s perfect for summer (I have a styled post with it planned for next week). It’s also great for fall with sneakers + a leather jacket or chunky knit sweater.
WORKOUT WEAR
**ALO SOHO PULLOVER: So, I own this pullover in three colors… I love it that much (initially bought it two seasons ago and have added colors over the years…). It’s great with leggings or as a post workout pullover… and for lounging as well. This year it comes in three colors… I have it in the pristine white. Fits TTS, but you could size up for a slouchy look. See it styled in black here.
**ZELLA LIVE IN HIGH WAISTED 7/8 LEGGINGS: (featured above) These are a new purchase… they have the best side pockets (great for holding your keys during a workout… or your phone while running errands). The fit is great (high waisted) and they’ll be great for runs + spin sessions.
**ZELLA LIVE IN LEGGINGS: I think I’ve has these for about 5 years… they’re a great basic black legging to have in your closet… for everyday life or for a workout.
ZELLA SPLITS RIBBED TANK: (grey tank above) OK, so this is the cutest little ribbed tank for working out. It has a slight crop to it… but the fit is super cute. It comes in four colors and I bought it in three…
**ALO DOUBLE TAKE CROPPED SWEATSHIRT: (featured above)I bought this in the Laurel color (the pretties pistachio shade) and I’m obsessed (I know that because I wore it the day after I got it…). Soft like butter and excellent for post workouts. I pair it with my white biker shorts for a summer look.
ALO LONGLINE SPORTS BRA: (featured above) Love love the fit of this sports bra… it’s feminine and flattering (I got it in the Laurel color to go with the set). I wore it for a spin workout and it was great… I think it’s better for lower impact activities… yoga, walks, elliptical… not sure how it will hold up in a run, but I’m going to try.
ALO AIRLIFT HIGH WAIST LEGGINGS: (featured above) Another purchase this year… because this is one of my favorite ALO leggings styles. They just fit so well! High waisted and lifting of the booty…. is there anything better??
**ZELLA LIVE IN 7/8 MATERNITY LEGGINGS: (featured above) I wore these throughout the entire third trimester of my pregnancy (as well as post pregnancy) and I can’t recommend them more to my pregnant mommas out there. True to the “live in” style, they fit great and you can literally do all of life wearing them!
OUTERWEAR
**FREE PEOPLE SO SOFT TEDDY COAT: (featured above with the Free People jeans) Bought this last season and can’t wait to wear it again this cold weather season. It’s super comfortable, and the teddy nature makes it so cozy in cold weather. I wore it in Park City and it kept me nice and warm. If you’re in the market for a heavy peacoat then I recommend this one…
SUEDE JACKET: I bought this jacket two sales ago and it’s still a favorite in the cooler months (I have it in the grey color). It’s such a great quality suede jacket… that clearly lasts across the years. Highly recommend.
BB DAKOTA FAUX SHEARLING COAT: Another purchase from last year… lighter in weight than the Free People coat… so if you live in a more mild climate this one might be a better option! Super comfortable + soft as well!
BB DAKOTA WADE DRAPE FRONT JACKET: Another item I’ve had for several seasons (see it styled here)… it’s a faux suede material, but great quality, very soft, and love I really like the drape front shape. I own it in a parchment color, but I do have my eye on the coffee color….
MADEWELL OVERSIZED DENIM JACKET: I consider a denim jacket to be appropriate year round, especially for cooler summer nights. It’s a great casual layering option and when it’s oversized it’s right up my ally. I don’t have this one in my possession yet, since it’s on its way… but I think it will be great.
SHOES
TORY BURCH EVERLY SLIDE SANDAL: One of my favorite purchases from this season. Hands down. These slide will easily take me through the end of the summer season… they’re very padded, comfortable for all day wear, and super chic. The gold hardware is my favorite. My sister + mom also bought a pair….
ADIDAS EDGE LUX 3 RUNNING SHOE: I wouldn’t recommend this as a running shoe, not nearly enough support… but I do highly recommend it as a great cross trainer… walks, strength training, elliptical… great for those types of activities. I love the white + copper design as well.
DRESSES
LEOPARD SLIP-DRESS: Love this slinky little number for a date night, or girl’s night, out… it fits wonderfully, and you can’t beat the price point. Wear it solo in the summer or with a leather jacket and booties in the fall.
SLEEVELESS MIDI SWEATER DRESS: (featured above) The color of this dress is beautiful for summer + fall… and the material isn’t too warm to wear on a summer day… especially with the sleeveless design. It’s super flattering on the body and will be great with sneakers and a denim jacket come fall. I sized up to a small for this dress.
JEWELRY
Gorjana, one of my favorite designers, has several beautiful necklaces on sale. I purchased this star pendant + my sister bought this hammered coin necklace. This shimmer coin pendant necklace is also gorgeous… just very similar to pieces I already own.
Monica Vinander makes my favorite rose gold + diamond bracelet that I wear all the time has a lot of beautiful, investment, pieces on sale as well.
UNDERGARMETS
**SOFT STRETCH SEAMLESS THONG: I’ve been wearing this underwear for years… wear it with all of my leggings… and it’s the best. Super comfortable and no visible panty lines! Highly recommend…
LOUNGEWEAR
** Alright, so I snagged this pullover + jogger combo… and love that the pieces together are for fall… but separate work for summer! Pair the joggers with my favorite u-neck tanks and the pullover with some soft lounge shorts….
BEAUTY
ORIBÉ TEXTURIZING + DRY SHAMPOO SPRAY: I’ve been using both for several years… and the dry shampoo is the only reason I’m able to go up to a week without washing my hair. Lightweight, it does the job! The texturizing spray is my favorite for when I need to make my curls have a messy, undone look!
MOROCCAN OIL: My favorite hair oil (I use it before and after I style my hair) is part of a set… a full bottle + travel size. Since we have several trips coming up (and I’m almost out of product), this purchase was a no brainer for me.
BABY
**THULE DOUBLE GLIDE STROLLER: (featured above) This stroller is such a great jogging stroller…. we’ve used it several times now on our runs and have been so happy with it. It maneuvers + turns easily, glides while you push it, has sufficient storage, and has the converting capacity for a carseat (which means we can run much earlier than if we had to wait for Camille to sit in the regular seats). I highly recommend it! Single version here.
NUNA PIPA CARSEAT: We currently use an UPPAbaby because we have the same brand stroller… but the first time around, with Harper, this was the carseat that we used and loved it (we only switched this time because clipping it into the UPPAbaby stroller was more challenging and I wanted ease this time).
**BABY BLING HEADBAND: This knotted headband is seriously adorable… super soft and stretchy, so it doesn’t leave any marks on little one’s head.
MAXI-COSI MAGELLAN CONVERTIBLE CARSEAT: This is the carseat we have for Harper (in an updated version with two cupholders #FANCY). She loves it… she says it’s super comfortable… her only request is that we upgrade her to the two cup holders….
