My Go-To Basic Tops

If there’s anything that I love adding to my wardrobe, it’s good basic staples… like a favorite tee that you find yourself reaching for over and over again. A basic that you can choose to dress up or down, depending on the accessories… and can wear with your most loved sweatpants or favorite pair of denim… and can wear across seasons depending on how you choose to layer. And since I have a handful of tees that fit the bill exactly, I thought I’d round them all up here, in one place. I’ve included some details about the tee below each photo, and tried to show it styled in a couple different ways as well (not for all of them, but for most). I hope it’s helpful!

I hope everyone has a good day ahead!

I purchased this AGOLDE ribbed long sleeve top back in August and started wearing it with shorts until the temps dropped. I love the ribbed material and how soft it is. It is longer in the arms, so I typically have to roll up the sleeves, but it’s well made and I love the color… a great pieces for spring as well since it looks equally as cute with shorts (as seen above)…. (jeans, shorts, necklace)

This ribbed scoop neck top was a late summer purchase as well… that I wore with shorts until it was cool enough. It fits all my criteria for “basic” since I can wear it across seasons and dress it up and down as well. It’s a fitted top, so if you like it looser, I recommend going up a size. It also comes in several different colors as well.
(stripe linen shorts, jeans, leggings, sweater coat)

I love this Free Assembly long sleeve ribbed tee… such a great price, under $20, sustainably made, and a piece I reach for all the time… I actually have it in white and oat as well. It’s not as soft as the AGOLDE ribbed tee, but it fits really well and is great quality!
(Joggers, Vest)

There is nothing better than a good basic short sleeve tee, and this vintage style one from Madewell is one of my favorites. It’s under $20, has a slight stretch to it, and just fits so nicely. I own it in grey and black as well…. and it looks great with jeans, shorts, joggers, leggings, etc…. I purchased my regular size and it fits loose, but not oversized. Sharing it styled with jeans as well…
(leggings, slides, bag)

If you’re looking for a top that’s a little less casual, and can be worn into the office, then I highly recommend this cashmere tee. I obviously dressed it down with joggers, but you can easily wear this one with dark wash denim or slacks. I’m wearing my regular size and it’s a more fitted look, so I’d recommend sizing up one if you want it looser.

So this ribbed tank is a newer addition to my basic collection, but it’s so good. I’ve always loved the higher neckline on tanks like this (I have the AGOLDE one and love it) but always struggle to find a bra that fits perfectly with it. This one has a built in bra, which removes the need for finding the perfect bra. It comes in black, white, and grey as well and will be great for the spring and summer months.

I purchased this soft crop tee last spring and wore it so much more than I had initially thought I would. It looks great with anything high waisted… I’ve worn with with high waisted shorts/jeans… leggings… and joggers…. as seen above!
(white Denim (similar), leggings, track joggers)

One of my favorite basic cami tanks is this one from Everlane. It’s lightweight and Iove the loose fit… I’ve had this clay color for two years and it’s held up so well. It also comes in several other colors. Sizing wise, I recommend either sizing down or going with your regular size (not sizing up). I sized down and it’s still a little loose, but not oversized.
