My Everyday Hair & Makeup

everyday make-up, itsy bitsy indulgences

In the past month I’ve received several questions regarding my make-up and hair routine. I’ve never considered myself a “beauty” expert… as I usually find a certain hairstyle or make-up routine and stick to it religiously… for several years (rigid much??). I’m not saying I don’t try anything new, I’m just saying that for my everyday look, I have that pretty much nailed down to the point I could do it with my eyes closed. Having used the same routine for a while now, it has allowed me to become an expert in my own way of doing “simple.” So, I thought I would share with you the products I use to achieve that look.

{Product Details || Foundation: Chanel | Tinted Moisturizer: Aveeno | Concealor: Laura Mercier | Blush: Laura Mercier | Bronzer: Bobbie Brown | Illuminating Powder: Bobbie Brown | Finishing Powder: Laura Mercier | Brown Pencil/Highlighter: NYX | Gel Eyeliner: Sonia Kashuk | Eye Liner: Sonia Kashuk | Eyeshadow: M.A.C- Naked Lunch | Mascara: Cover Girl | Curling Iron: Conair | Robe: Plum Pretty Sugar}

FACE:

Foundation: I use Chanel’s Vitalumiere and absolutely love it! It leaves my face with a more “dewey” than matte finish, which is what I prefer for my everyday look. I mix this with Aveeno CC Cream (since it has SPF) and then rub the mixture onto my face evenly. If I’m feeling fancy I use a foundation brush… most of the time it’s my fingers.

Concealer: I recently switched to Laura Mercier. This one, in particular, is creamy and provides excellent coverage for my under-eye circles and facial blemishes. I love that it is moisturizing and doesn’t dry out my face.

Bronzer: After I’ve applied the above, I add a little bit of bronzer (and here I emphasize little as I don’t want to look like an oompaloompa). I brush it across my forehead, down my nose, under my cheek bones, and along my jaw line.

Blush: I’ve been using this rose colored blush (called pink petal) for the past two years… and while I have tried other colors, I always end up returning to it. I love the pigment… and a little bit goes a long ways!

Finishing Powder: After all of the above have been applied, I use this loose powder. It’s light and holds my make-up for most of the day. I love that it doesn’t leave me looking cake-y… because who wants that?

Illuminating Powder: To top off the look, I add a touch of the illuminating powder to the tops of my cheeks. It adds just the right amount of sun-kissed glow.

EYES:

Brow Pencil/Highlighter: I swear by this one, especially the highlighter portion. I add it under my brow, in the corner of my eye, and in the corner underneath my eye to give it some brightness… and let’s be honest, who couldn’t use a little extra brightness in the morning??

Eyeliner: I use my eyeliner pencil to line the inside rim of my eyes, on both the lower and upper lash lines. I love the creamy texture of this one.

Eye Shadow: For a neutral and natural look, I use M.A.C.’s Naked Lunch… and I think I’ve used it for the past 8 years!

Gel Eyeliner: I opt for a gel eyeliner to line my upper eye… I find it to be a little more forgiving if I make a mistake.

Mascara: I might be switching soon because I’ve discovered a new mascara that I want to try… but for the past several years I have been using this option. I find it makes my lashes look fuller than they probably are… and that’s always a win!

HAIR:

For my hair, I prefer soft waves and curls. I use a 1 inch curling iron. I separate my hair into sections. Starting with the bottom portion I grab the curling iron in the opposite hand of the side I am curling. I then point the barrel so it is facing down, open the clamp, and wrap my hair around the front of the barrel, holding onto the end of my hair. I don’t ever close the clamp. Hold for 10-15 seconds (depending on how tight you want your curls) and then release the piece you are holding. I repeat on the other side, but I am sure to switch the direction by holding the curling iron in the opposite hand. At the end I lightly run my hands through the curls to fluff and separate.

OUTFIT:

To round it all out, I like to choose a simple outfit on the weekends. One that is comfortable, yet chic. I opt for simple pieces like this top, vest, leggings, and sneaker combo.
