Mood Matching

IMG_2422

I was having a conversation with a colleague a few weeks ago, and she was telling me that one of her clients arrived to session wearing a brightly colored shirt-unusual for his typically depressed demeanor. I thought about this idea of matching your outfit choices with your mod, and I realized that I totally do this! Whether conscious or not, I find myself wearing colors and prints like polka dots and stripes when I’m feeling refreshed, playful, and bubbly. And when I’m tired, mellow, or a little low, I wear darker colors and/or more structured patterns. And when I took this particular picture, I can recall feeling very tired from a long weekend, and not in a very “colorful” mood. Thus, this black on black ensemble.

IMG_2420I liked the fact that the top and bottom were the same color, but very different materials, patterns, and textures, so it’s like they were completely different pieces. I livened it up a bit with this gold clutch, and added a touch of pattern with the leopard pump, just to break it up a bit. Since apparently I wasn’t feeling very sparkly either, I kept the jewelry simple and black & gold. This big and bold Kendra Scott bracelet is the perfect touch to soften the look, and this Ofina midi ring (stay tuned for a giveaway soon!) has a similar effect.

What do you think? Do you mood-match your clothes??
