Life || Saving Time To Make Memories

In full disclosure, I didn’t pay much attention in my Economic AP class, for various reasons, but in a nutshell I found it relatively boring. And while I say all of that, I did take away one main point: The concept of “opportunity cost.” It’s the one economic principle that I apply to my life on a daily basis. Essentially, it’s the cost of doing something in terms of the opportunity you forgo…

Ask anyone who knows me and I’m constantly applying this principle to my life. I find time to be so valuable, something that you can never get back, and optimizing how I spend my time has become something I’m not willing to compromise.  I’ve become increasingly more aware of “time” over the past several months and constantly find myself asking “what’s the opportunity cost of that?” By spending a little bit more, will I actually be saving more in terms of life fulfillment and enjoyment? Once I get my answer and weigh it all out, I am able to make a decision that’s best for our entire family.

With the demands of virtual learning, work, parenting, self-care, and investing in a marriage, I think everyone can agree that we could all benefit from saving time so that we can invest in memory making with our family. We just signed up for Walmart’s new Walmart+ membership to do just that: save time to spend it where it matters most. We regularly (as much as I hate to admit) find ourselves scrambling when we’re a few hours away from bedtime and realize we’ve run out of Camille’s overnight diapers. Or, when we’re heading to my parent’s pool and can’t find the last of the swimmie diapers because, in reality, there aren’t anymore. Or, the times when we realize we don’t have any more paper towels, dish soap, and laundry detergent, but desperately need all… but still have so many other things to do that heading to the store just isn’t in the cards. That’s where the Walmart+ membership can help with free unlimited delivery (your order must be at least $35 and other restrictions may apply) helps with grocery + more deliveries as soon as same day. The service is $12.95 a month (say good-bye to per delivery fees) and pays for itself in just two deliveries based on the $7.95 delivery fee (and trust me, I find myself at the grocery store several times a week for things I’ve forgotten…). It save us time we can spend watching a movie with the girls, bike riding with the family, jumping on the trampoline with Harper, making a special Sunday morning brunch, having a date day with TJ, reading with the girls, or just lounging at my parent’s house by the pool. In the event that I do have to go into Walmart, I also have access to their mobile scan & go feature which allows me to check out as I go so I spend less time in the store, and it prevents additional contact with others. The program offers different benefits based on zip code and they also offer a free 15 day trial. Trying it out and seeing how much time you’ll end up saving is a win-win. I would love to know any other time saving tips you all use so that you can spend more time doing what you love!
