Holiday Decorating || Halloween Festive

Growing up, the holidays were always a special time. A time filled with traditions, family, lots of baking, and decorations galore. From Halloween to Christmas the house was constantly decorated with something festive for the season. It was almost as if the air had a more magical sense to it. That being said, with Harper being a toddler, and more able to fully understand the holidays, it has given me a new excitement for this time of year. Now, a lot of it has to do with making it a special for her, so that she too will be filled with memories later in life…

I was on instagram a few months ago and saw an account that had decorated their child’s playhouse with beautiful globe lights. I thought it was the cutest thing I had ever seen, and knew Harper would love having her little house decorated for the holidays. So I got to brainstorming and figuring out the best way to decorate her little home for Halloween. When I told her about the idea she said, “A spooky playhouse… ooooooo.”

So we naturally headed to Walmart to look for home decorations. Their selection of Halloween decor is unreal… so many costume options, indoor + outdoor props, + party supplies… you’re bound to find everything you need in one stop. Plus, you can’t beat their prices. I got everything I needed to decorate little miss’ playhouse for under $100…. including her cute little Elsa costume. We were going for a “spooky fun” vs “spooky scary” vibe… and either way you choose, there are plenty of decor items to fit your need. I’m also looking at their costume selection to figure out what we want to be as a family this year…. do we go with the Frozen theme?? TJ can be Olaf + I can be Anna? Or maybe a completely different direction and DIY a family costume outfit… either way, they have me covered!

Back to decorating the house. Quite possibly the best aspect of this entire process was seeing Harper’s excitement, and encouraging her to place the spiderwebs wherever she wanted… and to haphazardly place spiders here and there.  To start, I made sure we had these clear adhesive hooks in order to properly secure the lights around the house (they’re also easy to remove if you decide you want to take the lights down). We made sure to string our lights before putting up any of the other decorations, since you don’t want the lights to knock anything down. After that assembly is super simple…. put those cobwebs all over… toss in a few spiders… and a couple other cute and festive items and the house is ready for your little one to enjoy throughout the holiday season!
